  • Summer Reading

Recommended reading lists for Lower School and Middle School are available to the right.

The Upper School Summer Reading Program at Hockaday is managed by the students and faculty who are part of the Academic Council and is designed to offer the student body choice in what they read during the summer. In early May, all students (new and returning) were asked to fill out a summer reading survey and rank order their book preferences based upon a provided list.

As of May 24th, the Upper School’s Academic Council has assigned all new Upper School students to read one summer reading book based on survey results.  If you did not fill out the survey in the month of May or if you don’t see your name on the book assignments sheet, please email Renee Laffitte, Interim Head of Upper School, at rlaffitte@hockaday.org as soon as possible to obtain your summer reading assignment.  Please email Form IV student Ashna Kumar, who is the Academic Council President, if you have any questions about your assignment.  Her email address is akumar@hockaday.org

All book discussions will take place on Tuesday, August 23 from 11:15 am – 12:00 pm.  Students will receive information about the location of their discussion when they arrive on August 23.  All students should be prepared to engage in a 45 minute student-led discussion with a small group on this day.  Students are not required to complete any other assignments related to summer reading prior to August 23.
We hope you enjoy your summer reading book!
