A Message from the Eugene McDermott Head of School

Since its founding in 1913, The Hockaday School has been firmly committed to educating girls so that they will think beyond the walls of their classrooms and imagine a world of possibilities that await them. Our girls possess the character and confidence to lead lives of purpose and impact, and I consider it a tremendous privilege to be part of this journey with them.

From the first moment I was introduced to Hockaday, I was inspired by the students, parents, faculty, staff, trustees, and friends of the School who are deeply committed to girls education and their lives. No matter if it's in the classroom, in the lab, on the field, or in the art studio, education has the transformative power to change lives. I believe learning is fluid and participatory. At Hockaday, our girls thrive in an atmosphere that invites engagement and challenges them to test their assumptions through interactions with teachers and peers.

At Hockaday, each of us is deeply passionate about our mission. I am excited to be part of our students' educational experiences, and I embrace the academic rigor exemplified by our curriculum and the faculty who creates the environment in which students will thrive and succeed. While exploring their worlds, both our youngest girls, who are entering prekindergarten, and our seniors, who are ready to embark on their next adventure, tap into their strengths, learn from their failures, and develop the resilience they need to live lives of consequence.

It is incredibly satisfying for me to work in partnership with all members of the Hockaday community to ensure our girls' experiences are robust, nurturing, and fulfilling, and serve them today and in their future lives. They have boundless opportunities at Hockaday, and our girls are empowered by their education and become leaders and contribute meaningfully in the areas they pursue.

Today, the halls of Hockaday continue to be filled with a fervent energy and a zest for learning as it was from its humble beginnings. Still guided by the Four Cornerstones of Character, Courtesy, Scholarship, and Athletics, we believe anything is possible through collaboration and commitment to girls education.
