Carol Thumlert has worked at Hockaday since 2000. She started working with lower school students in the P.E. Department and Happy Happenings Program, and with the Boarding Students providing physical activities and sports in the evenings and weekends. Carol currently teaches P.E. and Swimming to third through sixth grades. She was a recipient of the Ackerman Award for Mentoring in 2015.

In athletics, Carol is the Varsity Assistant Field Hockey Coach, Middle School/US Swim Coach, and Varsity Tennis Coach. She enjoys the variety of her responsibilities and loves the spectrum of ages she’s around during the school year. During the summer, she can be found on the tennis courts, hitting lots of balls to boys and girls attending Hockaday’s summer camp.

Before teaching at Hockaday, Carol was an event planner in San Diego.  Carol graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications and Marketing. She also was a LadyJack Tennis player.

The thing that Carol loves about working at Hockaday is the interaction with the students. She loves to be part of a students’ growth and her teaching and coaching responsibilities enhance the continuity of that dynamic.
