This week, the Biology, Impact, and the Zoo class, a Social Impact class taught by Brandi Finazzo and Laura Day, held the sixth annual BIZ Shark Tank Pitch Contest.
In a Shark Tank FIRST, the presentations included live dogs and an entire hive of bees! The students impressed the judging panel, which was made up of several members of the Hockaday Board and Dallas community:
* Lucy Billingsly Burns ’98 - Partner at Billingsley Company, parent, alum and Hockaday trustee
* Taj Clayton - Partner at Kirkland & Ellis, parent and trustee
* Scott Harper - CEO at Dialexa, parent and trustee
* Lisa New - CEO of the Dallas Zoo
Five student teams pitched their prototyped solutions, which targeted different environmental problems. FTP Filtration, Bee Happy, CLEANSR, Paws For A Cause, and EcoThreads each gave compelling and confident presentations demonstrating empathy, creativity, and ingenuity. The winning team this year was CLEANSR, which featured a user-friendly one-stop-shop app focused on clean makeup and skin care for the environmentally conscious consumer. Congrats 👏 👏 to Form III students Diya Cadambe, Aynalie Charron, Paloma Duarte, and Alex Smith, and to all the BIZ students for a job well done this year!
