Senior Qualifies for National Debate Championship
3/9/2010
Senior Anna Ramundo will compete in the National Forensic League National Championship in Kansas City, Missouri in June. To qualify for nationals, students compete at a qualifying tournament in their district; the top two debaters then go to nationals. Anna earned qualification in the North Texas Longhorns District, which includes 36 schools in the DFW area. This will be Hockaday’s fifth straight year to represent North Texas at nationals. At the qualifying competition, Julia Enthoven (Form III) placed 6th in the district, and Isabel Vazquez (Form II) placed 10th.
The Hockaday Debate Team will compete at the Texas Forensic Association State Championship in El Paso Saturday, March 13. Hockaday has at least double the qualifications in Lincoln-Douglas Debate in Texas with 14 girls qualifying. Three Public Forum Debate teams also qualified for the 2010 TFA State Championship. To qualify, students earn points each time they advance to elimination rounds at a competition. Students are invited to TFA State once they accumulate a certain number of points.
