Second Grade Cleans Up Trinity River

On Friday, November 13, the second grade girls cleaned up the Trinity riverbed in coordination with Groundwork Dallas. Helping the Environment has been the second grade’s service theme for the past four years, an important theme for all of Lower School. This is the third year the second graders have participated in this service learning project, and the Executive Director of Groundwork Dallas Peter Payton showed the class the eco-classroom and taught them about the five eco-systems there.  While the girls bagged 12 garbage bags of trash, he explained there is a direct correlation with what we did and the cleanliness of the drinking water that comes out of our faucets. It was fascinating to learn that the Trinity River provides 70% of Dallas drinking water!
