This process is designed to highlight the creativity and joy the arts bring to our community, while also identifying opportunities for growth. On Tuesday, September 16, parents, faculty and staff, students in grades 5–12, and recent graduates will receive a link to a short survey to share their perspectives. The survey will remain open through September 24, and your feedback will play a vital role in shaping this important work.

Your daughter’s designs were sent via email with instructions on how to select the design(s) you like. Middle School and Upper School may download the artwork form from the Charms Tile on the Parent Resource Board.

  • Lower School Athletic Team Parents

The following are athletic team group pick-up guidelines that were created to help facilitate the large groups of students who attend practices on campus right after school.

Please read the following guidelines carefully:
    • Students may not change clothes or shoes for athletics in their classrooms or during carpool. We do not have the supervision needed for this and are unable to make sure students keep up with their items.
    • The girls may take off their jumpers or skirts and change shoes when they get to the field.
    • Once a team list is officially set through Mrs. Branson, the students on the list will be allowed to leave with the designated parent volunteer on practice days.
    • 5-10 minutes before dismissal time, the parent volunteer(s) should arrive on the back patio by the Rotunda. Keep in mind, it takes some time to park, check in at the LLARC, and walk by the playground to the patio.
    • The parent volunteer(s) will then notify one of the carpool teachers that they are here to pick up the team.
    • The carpool teachers will have the list of girls who are in that day’s practice group. Sometimes girls may not be practicing that day and not realize it, so please check your list carefully.
    • If needed, the restrooms at Cornerstone Plaza can be used. If a student needs to return to Lower School to use the restroom, she must be accompanied by an adult.
Please make sure all parent volunteers that are helping with your team are aware of these guidelines.

Starting the New School Year Off Right
Raising Independent Kids: Little Moments That Make a Big Impact
One of the most meaningful gifts we can give our children is the chance to grow into confident, capable, and independent people, step by step, in everyday life. Whether your child is just starting in PK or on the edge of middle school, these early years are a perfect time to build independence and emotional resilience.
As a school, we’re here to partner with you in that process. Here are a few small (but powerful!) ways you can help foster independence at home and set your child up for success this school year:

  • Daisies in the Middle

Welcome to Daisies in the Middle, a space created especially for parents and guardians of middle school girls here at Hockaday. Just as daisies bloom brightly in the middle of a field, our students are learning, growing, and discovering who they are in the “middle” years of their school journey.

Through this series, I’ll share updates, guidance, and resources from Advisory Lessons and the Counseling Department to help you better understand the unique joys and challenges of middle school. From social-emotional learning to academic growth, friendship dynamics to healthy habits, these articles are designed to keep you informed, supported, and connected to your daughter’s experience.

The Middle School will continue partnering with WinatSocial to support our Daisies as they grow in their well-being, academics, and friendships, while also learning to navigate the challenges of technology. You can access more information including instructions for accessing the WinatSocial Family Toolkit by clicking here.

Together, we can ensure that every Hockaday girl continues to thrive, not only in the classroom, but in her sense of self, her relationships, and her well-being.
    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hall

  • A Note from Lisa Culbertson

I hope your daughter enjoyed her retreat last week. We certainly enjoyed watching them bond as a class and enjoy each other's company. If you did not get many details from your daughter, some conversation starters might be:
-Form I/IV - What was your favorite activity? Did you hang out with anyone new or someone you haven't spent lots of time with before?
-Form II/III - Tell me about the Friendship Trial. What was on your Dopamine Menu?

Since our last Daisy News, we had our first all US Parent Coffee. (Here is the PowerPoint we used as a framework for the Coffee.) We addressed many back-to-school items like attendance, cell phone use, and uniforms. Our next parent coffee will be on Friday, October 17 at 9:00am. Along with our normal Upper School updates about school and your daughter's life, we will talk about what to expect during conferences on November 6-7.

If you ever have any questions, we would love to her from you!
