Student-Led Deliberation

Upper School students engaged in a deliberation yesterday with their advisories on the question, “How should the Hockaday Upper School regulate the use of cell phones by students during the school day?”
Led by trained student facilitators, the goal of each deliberation is to continue to build civil discourse skills during the election season and beyond, and for students to practice deliberating toward some shared understanding, rather than viewing such discussions as a chance to “win” an argument. Advisories were encouraged to submit proposals or ideas that came up during their deliberations.
