Welcome to Summer at Hockaday 2023!

Lower School in-person camps and classes will take place in weekly, half-day sessions with a few full-day options, as noted in the schedule. Registrations will close at 11:59 p.m. every Thursday for the upcoming week to allow us to make preparations for new groups of participants.

The following Enrollment Contract and will require an electronic signature within the registration process. Please read prior to registering.

Kaleidoscope Day Camp

Summer at Hockaday's longstanding day camp, Kalediscope Day Camp, occurs in two-week sessions with a variety of activities to include imaginative play, critical thinking, creative expression, outdoor exploring, cooking, science, and much more. Each session will center around fun and engaging themes. Each two-week session will differ from previous sessions, so join us for multiple sessions! 

Lunch is included in the tuition for Kaleidoscope Day Camp. Please do not send lunch with your camper.

Camp Invention - WONDER!

A SUMMER AT HOCKADAY FAVORITE!
 
Camp Invention is where BIG ideas become the next BIG thing! Join us this summer for our brand-new curriculum - WONDER! Local educators lead the week of hands-on activities as boys and girls spend time exploring brand-new themes: Catching Air, Invention Celebration, Mimicbot, and Pop-Up Venture. Lessons explore connections between science, technology, engineering, and innovation. Don’t miss out on brand new challenges. 

Camp Invention is a creation of the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

Explorations Camps & Classes for Grades 1 and 2

Lower School Explorations offers weekly in-person camps for children entering kindergarten through fourth grade. Programs offer a variety of activities and enrichment that span a wide range of interests. Classes are offered as half-day options with the opportunity to create a full-day of programming by selecting a morning and an afternoon program. Participants who attend a combination of a morning and afternoon offering within the same week will have lunch added to their camp registration for an additional fee. Programs that take place as a full-day option have lunch included in the tuition. 

Lunch is served to all campers who participate in a full-day schedule of programs, which includes a morning and afternoon program within the same week or a full-day program. Lunch includes hot and cold options, fresh fruit and vegetables, yogurt options, a fresh salad bar, and dessert on Fridays.
 
Register for multiple weeks to create a summer experience of creative learning and enrichment! 

Explorations takes place in person June 12 through July 28 with morning sessions occuring 9:00 a.m. to noon and afternoon sessions occurring 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch takes place from noon to 12:30 p.m. Before and After Care is available for an additional fee.

  • 3D Printing with 3D Modeling

    At 3D Printing Camp, 3D model and print items that show your true passion! Using cutting-edge 3D printers, you will model prototypes, mod existing designs, and print them in 3D! During the printing process, discover what it’s like to operate, clean, and care for a 3D Printer. Choose your favorite projects from our list of exclusive 3D modeling and printing themes. Learning Opportunities include conceptualizing, planning, designing, customizing, and improving your own products.

    Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of Lego® parts! Build engineer-designed projects and use special pieces to create your own unique designs! Projects are rotated seasonally to ensure that both new and returning campers can explore the endless creative possibilities of the Lego® building system. Adventure in STEM using Lego® is offered in partnership with Play-Well TEKnologies.

    This reading class will read selections from the Hockaday Summer Reading List and incorporate a variety of games and activities to enhance the understanding of the text. If you love reading, come join us as we read together, dig for meaning, examine character development, and engage new vocabulary! All are welcome to join us for this enriching reading experience.

  • AI - Robotics & Coding with Codey Rockey and Sphero BOLT

    In this action-packed camp, build your tech skills by using Codey Rocky robots and Sphero BOLT to conduct a series of fun missions and save the world! Text-based and drag-and-drop programming will be utilized, making this camp appropriate for campers of all levels of coding experience. Learning opportunities include building skills in artificial intelligence, robotics, coding, and more!

  • All-Girls STEAM!

    Join us for an action-packed week of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math! With exciting and unique topics each day, campers will get exposure to a wide variety of STEAM learning. Topics will include Science Labs (virtual and in-person science labs), The Future of Technology (ideas, inventions, advancements, and exceptional women leading the charge), Engineer Like the Greats (engineering projects inspired by influential women), Bridging Art and Technology (re-imagine popular works of art by notable women and take home your own adaptation in the form of a 3D print), and The Power of Math (understanding basic finance, problem solving skills, mathematical patterns behind hit songs).

  • Alpiners Climbing Camp

    This is the perfect indoor sports camp! Coach Stewart Ball has designed this experience to learn the basics of indoor rock climbing under the close supervision of a team of excellent climbing coaches. Climbing indoors at one of the best new climbing facilities in the country, Movement, we will focus on basic climbing skills and problem solving as well as building agility, balance, and coordination. Alpiners Climbing Camp is a field trip camp, leaving from and returning to Hockaday daily.  Space is limited, so don’t miss out!
     
    Please note: Movements facilities offer bouldering opportunities. Age-appropriate modifications are made for all participants.

    Travel through time with your favorite American Girl stories! We will explore aspects of American history through this popular series. Come enjoy a week of crafts, acting, reading, hands-on activities, and much more. Your doll is invited to join you for all the fun!

  • Bike Trails & Tours

    -Formerly Intermediate Bike Camp- This camp will challenge independent bike riders and increase your confidence in bike handling and safety skills while adding increased physical fitness opportunities. New to the camp this year will be the introduction of Hockaday’s Cross-Country Path that circumnavigates the campus, which will give you a chance to challenge yourself with distance and pace goals! Of course, we’ll have our traditional Hockaday Tour-de-France challenge when the Tour kicks off in July! All you need is a bike, helmet, water bottle, and snack. Bikes can be kept on campus throughout the week's class. 

    Bike Trails & Tours is offered in partnership with Coach Stewart Ball and Dallas Bicycle School.

    Learn about one of the largest and most complex organs of our body – the brain. We will learn the anatomy of the brain, how it functions and also understand how the brain can be manipulated using brain-teasing magic puzzles. We will challenge our brains with problem-solving activities and brain teasers. Come join us and sharpen your skills!

  • Digital Art with Framed Art Included

    Join us to draw a self-portrait, paint a still life, create anime figures, draw a favorite doll, create a new Pokemon character, create a cartoon script with text, paint landscapes, and more. Learn tips and tricks from our instructors about the art of creating shadowing, adding textures, including 2D/3D objects, spacing, utilizing color, and much more! With hundreds of types of pencils, colored pencils, and paint brushes, you will explore tons of options when creating your stunning images. Present your favorite piece of art at our digital art show at the end of camp! Choose your favorite piece of art from camp and we will print it, frame it, and mail it to your home!

  • Digital Fashion Design

    After learning about the latest fashion trends in L.A., you will plan out and design your own projects. Learn how to create clothing patterns online that you can print and use. Learn to use graphic design software to design fabric patterns that you can use in your clothing designs. Create your own fashion logo or illustration that will be placed on a tote bag as well as developing your own portfolio with a mood board and designs for your very first fashion line! Learning opportunities include designing a unique and personal brand, becoming a project manager, using design software, and more!

    Join Hockaday’s coaching staff for multiple weeks to develop lifelong skills that boost confidence, foster camaraderie, and increase athletic capabilities in all sports while making new friends! Our days will start with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, allowing you to learn how to use leverage against larger and stronger opponents.     This is the Minecraft camp for you! Minecraft U follows a progressive curriculum focused on learning computer skills, problem solving, planning, and building, but it's Minecraft, so it's always going to be fun! We emphasize cooperative play and teach game etiquette. Included in the camp tuition is one year of access to our Minecraft monitored server, which allows campers continued access to their projects. Our staff is comprised of computer scientists, teachers, and software developers who also enjoy gaming and Minecraft.

In Roblox, test your spy skills in games with other campers like our one-of-a-kind Capture the Flag game, iSpy, Hide-and-Seek, and others. Each new topic is utilized for a spy mission, creating a unique camp experience that enhances skills in technology, leadership, and more! Learning opportunities include gaining exposure to data analysis, logical thinking, high-tech collaboration, Morse Code, and Scratch or Python Coding!

Join us as we bring the African savannah to life on stage with Simba, Rafiki, and an unforgettable cast of characters journeying from Pride Rock to the jungle… and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale!

  • Suzuki Violin

    This Suzuki violin intensive taught by Hockaday’s Dr. Christine Rewolinski will focus on the fundamental elements of gross and fine motor skills and aural training consistent with the pedagogical skills and outcomes of both sensory-motor stage learning and violin performance. Independent movement, aural reasoning, visual-spatial reasoning, social interaction, sensory-motor acuity, and developed confidence in both solo and ensemble performance are the benefits of this world-renowned program.

    At YouTube® Camp – Video Production, you will learn the exciting process of creating a successful vlog/video for YouTube®! Identify an audience, create a brand, brainstorm a creative format, produce engaging content, and create at least one YouTube®-style video. Sample topics may include Minecraft Tutorials, Video Game Walkthroughs, Technology Unboxing, Product Review, How-To Videos, Fashion Videos, Travel Vlogs, Lifestyle Tips, and so much more! Valuable learning opportunities include scripting, acting, filming, using green screens, creating special effects, editing, and more!
