Why go to Boarding School: Parents' Perspective

How to Apply

List of 7 items.

  • 1. Complete the online application in the parent portal.

Please click here to start the online application. Once the online application and the application fee is submitted, please use the online checklist in the parent portal as a guide to submit the Parent Questionnaire, Student Questionnaire, and a copy of the applicant's birth certificate. Please submit all of these items in the online parent portal by December 15, 2018.
  • 2. Complete testing.

Students can take either the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Visit www.ssat.org  to register for the SSAT. Please call 1-800-446-0320 for ISEE information and registration or register online at www.iseetest.org.  For all applicants for whom English is their second language, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required in addition to the SSAT or the ISEE.  For Grade 8 only, the TOEFL Junior can be a substitute for the TOEFL.  For more information, please visit www.ets.org.
  • 3. Complete the parent and student interview.

Boarding applicants should contact Molly Averitt in the Office of Admission to arrange both a parent and a student interview.

After you have submitted the online application, please download the Transcript Release Form in the parent portal checklist or by clicking here.  A parent must sign the form before giving it to his/her daughter's current school. The current school's registrar should then submit the student's transcripts directly to Hockaday by January 26, 2018.
