New Families

Hockaday awaits your arrival with great anticipation! You are joining an exceptional community, and we are thrilled to have you as part of the Hockaday family. On this page you will find information to help you prepare for the 2017-2018 school year. 

A few important dates to remember:

2017-2018 Back to School Dates
  • Week of May 1: An email will be sent notifying parents that forms for 2017-2018 school are available by logging into the Parent Resource Board.
  • Thursday, June 1: All forms are due from parents/guardians to specified division and school offices. All health information is due.
  • Tuesday, July 25: An email will be sent to parents by the appropriate division with back-to-school information. Additional updates can be found by logging into the Parent Resource Board.
  • Friday, August 18: Signed Handbook confirmation forms due from parents/guardians to division offices.
 
Each year, Hockaday collects student health and medical information via the the MAGNUS portal. This safe, secure system meets all of the HIPAA requirements and provides critical health information to health care providers in the event of an emergency. Your daughter’s online Student Medical Record (SMR) is due Thursday, June 1 for the 2017-­2018 school year and is ready for you to complete. Please login and submit any items that are outstanding by Thursday, June 1.

The Resource Board is the hub from which you can find important information to help you stay updated as you navigate the school year. Here you can find the full school calendar, online directory, HPA information, Class Pages, volunteer opportunities, and links to departments such as Athletics, Fine Arts, Bookstore and more.

    Dance Placement Auditions for new Upper School students for 2017-2018
    • Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 3:15 PM
    • Dance Balcony in the Small Gym - park on Forest Lane and enter the LLARC. We can direct you.
    • Wear Comfortable clothes. If you already have dance attire/shoes, please wear them. Please do not purchase anything for this audition- we will discuss specific items needed in the fall. You do not need to prep anything for this audition.  We will teach combinations at the time of the audition.

  • Calendar of Important Dates

    Our all-school holiday calendar for 2017-2018 is available to download on the right. In July, you will receive a more detailed school calendar. You can also get the most up-to-date event information on the website. 

  • DaisyNews

    Beginning in August, DaisyNews, our weekly all-school newsletter, arrives in your e-mail inbox every Thursday afternoon. It is your "go-to" source of information for everything Hockaday. Please be sure to take the time to read it carefully each week.
  • Division-Specific Back to School Forms

    All families will receive an email the first week of May inviting you to login to www.hockday.org. You will see at the top of the Resource Board, a notification that you have school forms to complete. Click this yellow box and it will open the list of forms due JUNE 1. 

    In late July you will receive another Back-to-School email alerting you to the folder of information documents that are available in this same place, under your daughter's listing. Be sure to open this folder as it contains important information about your daughter's orientation schedule, who is her Lower School teacher, among other important items.
  • Extracurricular Activity Liaison Grades PK - 6th

    The Hockaday School understands how important extracurricular activities are in building positive relationships among Hockaday parents, students, and parent coaches/leaders. As a result, the Hockaday Parents’ Association (the “HPA”) has Extracurricular Activities Liaisons for Grades PK-6th grade (the “EALs”). As with all positions on the HPA, the EALs are parents who have volunteered their time to help us build these positive and inclusive relationships.
     
    The EALs’ job is to handle the formation of new Hockaday recreational sports teams, Adventure Princess groups, and Daisy Scouts, to help new students or newly interested students join existing teams and groups, to assist with reorganization or re-formation of teams when required, and to help with the transition of extracurricular activities from Lower School to Middle School.
  • Final Transcript Request

    Your daughter’s transcript of work from her current school must be sent to the appropriate Hockaday division: Lower School Office, Middle School Office, or Upper School Registrar. Please see that this transcript is received by July 1, 2017. The form is located on the right side column of this webpage.
  • Hockaday Directory (print version)

    The Hockaday Directory is printed each year during the summer for the benefit of the school community. It contains useful contact information for faculty, staff, trustees, HPA, and parents. Each enrolled student receives one copy of the Directory during Book Distribution. Additional copies can be pre-ordered.  An online directory is also available to view on the Parent Resource Board of the website.

    The Directory will reflect home address and phone numbers for each family, however, if you would like your email address and mobile phone numbers listed, you must OPT-IN for this information to be included. You will find the Directory information form in your list of Back-to-School forms on the Parent Resource Board.

    The deadline to submit your new family Directory information is June 1, 2017.
  • Hockaday Parents' Association (HPA)

    The Hockaday Parents’ Association (HPA) looks forward to contacting new families in June to share details of welcome events during the summer months and helpful insight on staying informed on news, dates, and information during the school year. The entire parent community, including new parents, will be able to view and sign up for 2017-18 parent volunteer opportunities in early May.  For instructions on how to access the Volunteer Site, please click here. If you have specific questions regarding the HPA, how to volunteer or get involved, please email HPA President Anna McPhail.
  • Laptop Information for Students in Grades 6-12

    In grades 6-12, laptops are required for all students at Hockaday.  All incoming students in grades 6-8 will be automatically billed $1,550 for the Hockaday laptop bundle and a laptop will be ordered automatically. New students in grades 6-8 receiving financial aid may contact the Financial Aid Office with questions. In the Upper School, students have the option of purchasing a laptop from Hockaday or bringing a personal laptop purchased elsewhere.  More information regarding laptops will be on this page in early May. 

    New 5th grade students and Lower School students
     do not need to purchase laptops.
  • Math and World Language Placement for Upper School Students

    Day students can read more information about the placement tests on the right and Boarding students can read more information below.

    Math Placement Assessment will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
    World Language Placement Assessment will take place on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

  • Private Music Lessons Registration

    In May, you can register your daughter for private music lessons for the upcoming school year. To read about our Private Music Program, please click on the information to the right.
  • Required Health Forms and Medical Certificate

    Each year Hockaday collects student health and medical information via the Magnus Health Portal. This safe, secure system meets all of the HIPAA requirements and provides critical health information to health care providers in the event of an emergency. Your daughter’s online Student Medical Record (SMR) is due Thursday, June 1 for the 2017-­2018 school year and is ready for you to complete.
     
    To get started,
    • Log in to www.hockaday.org using your MyBackPack username and password.

    • Click the MAGNUS | Medical  link on the PARENT RESOURCE BOARD.
    • When the MAGNUS PORTAL opens you will see your daughter’s name with a note that you have requirements to complete.

    • Click the orange “COMPLETE NOW button to open your daughter’s tracker which is a list of requirements that you must complete. This will appear like a “to do list” and you will see all the requirements for your daughter’s tracker.
    Among the items on the TO DO list:
    1. Vital Health Record – Information saved from last year will be displayed.You will need to review each section to update where necessary and save. Your information entered last year will be visible. If no changes are needed, or after changes are made, you must save each section to complete the requirement and submit for approval

    2. Medical Certificate
      Required for: Grades PK, K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and all new students.
      You must print this form, take it to your doctor to complete and sign. Submit the form by uploading, mailing or faxing to Magnus Health.

    3. Medication forms, allergy action plans, asthma action plans, etc. must be renewed every year, if applicable.

  • School Supplies for Lower and Middle School

    For Lower School students, school supplies are provided to the students and billed to student accounts. In Middle School, grade-specific supply packs will be provided to students and will be available for pickup by students on Registration Day on Monday, August 21. The cost of these Middle School supply packs is included in your daughter's tuition and fees.
  • Summer Programs

    Click here for information about Summer at Hockaday, including credit classes. If your daughter is doing any academic classes for credit this summer, please have the results of her work sent to the appropriate division office.
  • Summer Reading

    In early May, recommended reading lists for Lower School and Middle School will be available to the right.  

    The Upper School Summer Reading Program at Hockaday is managed by the students and faculty who are part of the Academic Council and is designed to offer the student body choice in what they read during the summer. In early May, we ask all students (new and returning) to fill out a summer reading survey and rank order their book preferences based upon a provided list. All students will be placed in a book discussion group that will meet in August.  

  • Tuition Payments

    If you selected the one payment option, payment is due June 1, 2017. If you selected the two payment option, 60% is due by June 1, 2017 and the balance is due in full by December 1, 2017. Login to MyBackPack to access your account information. The instructions for logging into MyBackPack are located on the right. 
  • Uniforms

    New uniforms may be purchased from Mills Uniform Company store at Welch and Alpha Road (13615 Welch Road #102, Dallas, TX 75244; 972-385-3121) Or online at www.millswear.com. Gently used uniforms are for sale on campus at Hockaday’s Uniform Resale Boutique. The Boutique is located in Tarry House (accessible through the Welch Road entrance). A schedule for sale dates (from now until May 2018) is available to the right. For more details about the Lower School uniform, please see the form on the right.
