Meet the Staff

Residential Faculty and Staff

Hockaday is fortunate to have a non-traditional boarding program in which the care of a residents’ social, emotional and physical well-being is a Dorm Parent’s full time job.  Dorm Parents live with the girls and provide day-to-day support, supervise evening study, attend the girls’ activities and events, problem solve, and set the tone for a pleasant and joyful home environment.

Residential Life Faculty and Staff are on campus 24 hours a day and are available for all student needs and parent communication. In addition to four full-time dorm parents, Hockaday utilizes two weekend dorm parents and four affiliates for weekend support and activities. The Activities and Transportation Coordinator plans weekend outings, promotes events and schedules transportation for activities sponsored by the department and requests from individual residents.

The Residence Life Staff work a staggered schedule to best support the needs of our girls:
  • Dorm Parents are available on the halls Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. – 8:30 a.m. the following morning, and Saturday 8:30 a.m. until Monday 8:30 a.m.

  • Affiliates work in support roles Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – midnight and Sunday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

  • The Activities and Transportation Coordinator is available Monday – Friday, 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

  • The Director of Residence Life is available Monday – Friday on a staggered schedule and each weekend, as needed.

List of 4 items.

  • Health Services

Nothing can replace the loving care of a parent, but the Health Services staff provide the compassion and support residents need when they are sick. Day and evening nurses are part of the extended boarding family and interact with residents outside the Health Center at dinner and at evening programs.

The Health Center is staffed 24 hours per day. For routine treatment or daily medications, residents visit the Health Center and the nurse on duty will determine whether the resident can rest in the Health Center, be monitored overnight in a room near the nursing office, or require a visit to our school physician.

The Health Services staff work with each resident, Dorm Parent, and the Upper or Middle School Offices to coordinate urgent healthcare appointments with an appropriate physician, dentist or specialist. Preventive health, maintenance, yearly physicals and cosmetic doctor or dentist appointments are addressed while a resident is at home.
  • Counseling

Each Division has a school counselor who is available as a resource for students, parents, and faculty and staff in regards to student matters. The Middle and Upper School Counselors, in addition to being available to talk with students throughout the school day, are available in an emergency to support residents and staff after the school day.

Counseling services offered through the School are primarily short-term, temporary services aimed at facilitating more effective education and socialization of the student within the school community. These services are not intended as a substitute for a prescribed program of psychological intervention nor a comprehensive psychological, educational, or medical evaluation by an outside professional.

The Middle School and Upper School Counselors are available Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and after hours in case of an emergency.
  • Learning Support

The Dr. William B. Dean Academic Learning Support Program is open to any resident in Middle and Upper School seeking to maximize their learning style and reach their optimal academic potential. Residents may work with the Director of Learning Support or Middle School Learning Specialist to learn new study techniques, strengthen time management and organizational skills, workshop papers, develop stronger reading comprehension, plan long term projects, extend memory skills, or prepare for upcoming tests.

Learning Support offices are open during school days and residents are welcome to drop in or make an appointment to work with Ms. Stephanie Worcester or Ms. Shelley Cave.
  • Tutoring

The Residence Life Department schedules weekly tutoring in a variety of subjects. With the approval of the teacher, private tutors can be recommended by the Director of Learning Support.
