Coach LaBoris Bean joined the Hockaday community in 2011. In addition to his role as the Strength and Conditioning Coach, Head Track & Field Coach, Head Cross Country Coach and Assistant Basketball Coach, he is also the Director of Sports for Hockaday’s Summer Camp program. Coach Bean has learned the importance of building positive relationships with students, coaches, parents and all stakeholders to help build a successful program. He has had several winning seasons with teams, but for him it’s so much more than training athletes to win - it’s about equipping them with skills they can use to be successful in life. He collaborates with the coaching staff to ensure that the positive outlook about Hockaday Athletics is understood by student athletes, and he works to fulfill the mission of the program and the School. Coach Bean spends time meeting with athletes and contacting college recruiters to advocate for those student athletes who are interested in competing on the collegiate level.

Throughout his career, Coach Bean feels that he has gained an abundance of experience, not only as a coach but an athlete as well. He competed professionally for four years with the USA Track & Field team, competed in the Olympic Trials, and earned the All-American and All Big XII title at the University of Oklahoma. He attended the University of Oklahoma on a full Track & Field scholarship and earned a masters degree in Coaching & Athletic Administration from Concordia University in Irvine CA.  Bean loves traveling and spending time with his lovely wife, Talana, their energetic young daughter, McKenzie, and boxer, Laila.
