Committing to Civic Involvement

Throughout the year speakers are invited to engage with Hockaday students to share their stories and experiences as politicians, community, and civic leaders through the Women in Politics Program. Among the speakers are alumnae currently working in politics who share their bi-partisan perspectives. Students gain insights into real-world and timely discussions to help them better understand the innerworkings of government today, how they can make an impact in their community, and increase the number of women in today’s political landscape.

Students continue to learn how to become involved in civic organizations and to learn about the process of government and the opportunities that exist both now and in the future. Most recently, more than 25 students registered to vote on Tuesday, September 25, National Voter Registration Day led by Celese Gierhart, youth ambassador to Mayor Mike Rawlings though the Dallas Youth Commission.

Upper School students, in partnership with several public high schools, are headed to Austin with Deeds not Words. They will learn to write and advocate for bills geared towards women’s issues.
