Prior to coming to Hockaday, Tina spent 12 years in the banking industry.  In 1991, she returned to college, at Texas Woman’s University, to complete her business degree and pursue a degree in physical education.  Despite Tina’s age, she was still eligible to play at the collegiate level.  She took a risk as a non-traditional student/athlete, at 28 years old, and tried out for the tennis team, ultimately securing a scholarship. Tina played tennis for Texas Woman’s University for 3 years and served as an assistant coach for 1 year during her time with the university. After earning a BS in Kinesiology , a BA in Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University, and her Texas Teacher Certification in Physical Education K-12, Tina joined Hockaday in 1996.

During her time with Hockaday she has held many roles in the Physical Education, Health, and Athletics department. She has taught physical education classes in all three divisions and at each grade level. Additionally, she has provided leadership at each division level through coordinator positions and initiating curriculum development. Tina’s primary focus is now on early childhood physical education, pre-kindergarten through second grade.

In Athletics, Tina has coached six different sports, spanning across all levels at Hockaday. These sports include: Varsity and Middle School Tennis; MS Plaid Cross Country
8th grade and JV Field Hockey; 7th grade, 8th grade, and JV Volleyball;
7th grade, 8th grade, and 782’s Basketball; Assistant Middle School Swimming;
and 7th grade, 8th grade, JV, and Varsity Assistant Lacrosse.

Tina has enjoyed the opportunity to experience working with a full range of Hockaday athletes from middle school teams, full of eager beginners to the 2007 Lacrosse team, winning SPC and the 2008 Lacrosse winning the State Championship.  Tina is the Head Middle School Tennis Coach and will manage the Winter and Spring Tennis programs as well as assist the MS Plaid Cross Country team.

Tina says, “One of the best parts of teaching physical education at Hockaday is the opportunity to foster the love of movement and to instill the idea of becoming a life-long mover to the students and to set an example of maintaining an active-healthy lifestyle.”  Tina loves to travel, kayak, fish, play disc golf, and spend time with her dogs.
