Melinda Nuñez

Melinda Nuñez was appointed to the Physical Education, Health, and Athletics department at Hockaday in 2011.Upon graduation from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, she matriculated into the Teach for America program and was placed in the Phoenix region to teach self-contained 5th grade. She has since spent time working with students in a variety of school settings and subject areas in Phoenix, Chicago, and Dallas. While at Hockaday, Melinda has taken on the roles of coordinator for 3rd/4th Grade Physical Education, curriculum developer for the 3rd/4th Grade Fitness Development program, US Online Health III, & US Health 101. She has served in various coaching positions, including Varsity Basketball Assistant, MS Basketball, and MS Volleyball.

Most recently, Melinda completed her MEd in Teacher Leadership at Lamar University, and she continues to grow and learn. Current interests include learning more about issues of mental health, fitness and nutrition for middle school students, and integrating meaningful and collaborative technology into the health and physical education classrooms. Her teaching assignments for the 2018-2019 school year include 5th Grade Physical Education/Health, 6th Grade Physical Education/Health, US Health 101, MS Volleyball, and MS Basketball.

Melinda has been active in sports all her life! She grew up playing competitive soccer and basketball. At Hendrix she lettered in basketball and volleyball. In her freshman year, Hendrix Women’s basketball won the conference championship and qualified for the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament. She loves to compete, play, and share this passion with her students.

Melinda is a Texas native, married to a Chicago native, Daniel. She has four children and enjoys being outdoors, reading, and creating lesson plans.
