Engineering Designs Lift for North Dallas Shared Ministries Warehouse

Bailey Savoy ’19 and several students in the Hockaday Engineering Class helped North Dallas Shared Ministries to design a system to assist their volunteers in moving large, heavy boxes along with lifting and removing them from shelves. Over several weeks, the students researched different scissor lifts, sketched prototypes, and overcame building issues and liability concerns. Bailey stated “The learning process was very educational for my team and myself. I am so glad we were able to navigate the world of engineering together. My team and I estimate that our lift will be completed in late January and delivered to our clients by the beginning of February. We are excited to see it in action and cannot wait to lighten the load of these wonderful, hardworking volunteers.”
