Third Grade Explorations

As a culminating project for the Third Grade Lewis and Clark unit in Social Studies, students wrote one of their own journal entries, imitating the style of the famous Lewis and Clark journals that recorded new species during their exploration out west.
They worked with the Institute for Social Impact to become keen observers, with Mrs. Guerra to make scientific observations and measure out their very own cottonwood boat (as the explorers did) based off of trees we have in our very own garden, with Mrs. Wilensky to conduct mathematical measurements, and with Ms. Miller to compose a written journal entry compiling and detailing their “new-found” species. From the beautiful bluebonnets in bloom, to the vivid Indian paintbrushes, the Lower School Garden made for an excellent “classroom” last week!
The girls also harvested Lacinato “Dinosaur” Kale and cabbages to donate to Marcus Mart food pantry. In total, they donated 56.3 lbs of cabbage and 5.25 lbs of kale!
