Letter from the Board Chair

A LETTER FROM
DAVID A. ROOSEVELT
CHAIR, BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Dear Members of the Hockaday Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of Hockaday. Your gifts make a profound difference. As many of you know, tuition covers only a portion of the true cost of a Hockaday education. Everything that makes this School extraordinary, from inspired teaching to exceptional programs to the special spaces where our girls learn, create, compete, and grow, is made possible because of you. These experiences, combined with the traditions that generations of students have cherished, are at the heart of what makes Hockaday so remarkable.

Hockaday is one of the leading all-girls schools in the country, not by accident, but because generations of families, alumnae, trustees, faculty, and friends have chosen to invest in the girls who walk these halls. We stand on the shoulders of remarkable philanthropy, and your continued generosity ensures that both our traditions and our commitment to excellence endure.

Your support this past year strengthened Hockaday in meaningful and tangible ways. You helped fund curricular and co-curricular innovation, professional development for our dedicated faculty, and vital tuition assistance for families who need it. You also helped fuel the accomplishments of our girls. The Class of 2025 includes 13 National Merit Finalists and 21 National Merit Commended Scholars. Eighteen of our graduates went on to compete in collegiate athletics. Seven students pursued programs in the visual and performing arts. The class, as a whole, matriculated to 61 colleges across 28 states and one foreign country. These achievements reflect not only the hard work of our students but also the opportunities and encouragement made possible by your support.

Last year, thanks to your generosity, we exceeded our Annual Fund goal and raised more than $3.1 million in support of our girls and their teachers. Endowment gifts and pledges totaled nearly $2.4 million, strengthening the long-term foundation of the School. The Parents Association raised over $350 thousand in support of The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence. These are remarkable numbers, and more importantly, they represent an extraordinary commitment to the mission and future of Hockaday.

As Chair of the Board, I also want to affirm the School’s commitment to faithful and responsible stewardship. Hockaday’s leadership takes seriously the trust you place in us, and your gifts are managed with care, prudence, and a deep sense of responsibility. Because of this partnership, your generosity and the School’s thoughtful stewardship, Hockaday remains financially strong and well-positioned for the future.

It is my privilege to present the 2024 to 2025 Annual Report of Gifts. I hope it reinforces what I see every day, a community that believes in this School, invests in its mission, cherishes its traditions, and helps shape the lives of girls who will make a difference in the world.

Thank you for all you do for Hockaday.

Gratefully,

DAVID A. ROOSEVELT
