Athletics as a Cornerstone

Our Athletics and Wellness programs help students develop a sense of confidence, self-esteem, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and cooperation that prepares them to meet challenges both on and off the field. This visionary approach integrates athletics across the Hockaday student experience in exciting, new ways.
As one of Hockaday’s Four Cornerstones, Athletics plays an integral role in the lives of Hockaday students. Our sports activities, as well as our physical education classes, teach us to enjoy the mental, physical, and ethical balance that stems from teamwork, self-sacrifice, and perseverance. At Hockaday, we are committed to providing numerous opportunities that enable students to develop and nurture the knowledge and skills necessary to live healthy, active lives.

Hockaday competes in the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. In addition, Hockaday students compete in crew and fencing.

College-Bound Athletes

Many Hockaday student-athletes elect to pursue their athletic careers in college. This requires a coordinated effort between the athlete, her family, and the School.  Student-athletes interested in participating at the collegiate level work with the College Counseling office to assist them in deciding what role athletics should play in the college search, as well as important details about eligibility, recruiting, and scholarships.

Twelve members of the Class of 2024 are continuing their athletic careers in college, adding to the 75 collegiate student-athletes who have graduated from Hockaday in the past seven years.
