Carmen Doubrava received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in piano performance from the University of North Texas, where she was a teaching fellow.  She had a large piano studio at her home in Carrollton, and also taught at Brookhaven College for 10 years before coming to Hockaday in 1999, where she teaches piano and accompanies the Middle School choirs and orchestra.

Originally from Berlin, Germany, Ms. Doubrava moved to Texas at the age of 4. She was 8 years old when she started accompanying musical shows at her school, and 16 when she started a small piano studio at her home and assisted her piano teacher.  She has since accompanied recitals throughout the US, including the State Department in Washington, DC. She is also the accompanist for the Horizon Unitarian Universalist Choir in Carrollton, and accompanies recitals for violin and cello studios throughout the Dallas area including the Dallas Suzuki Academy.

In demand as an adjudicator, Ms. Doubrava has over 35 years experience as a competition and festival judge in Texas. She was honored to be elected as a permanent judge for the Dallas Junior Pianists Guild. Ms. Doubrava is also a charter member and former president of the Carrollton Music Teachers Association, and for many years she co-chaired the Texas Music Teachers state piano competition.

Since 2010, Ms. Doubrava has written over 20 “Pupil Savers” articles for the professional magazine, Clavier Companion.  Her students are her inspiration for these articles; she loves finding that special piece of music that motivates and captures the imagination of students of all ages.
