We are looking forward to the Installation of The Hockaday School’s new Eugene McDermott Head of School Dr. Karen Warren Coleman this Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 3:00 pm in Penson Athletic Center at Hockaday. This historic occasion will be a celebration to mark the beginning of the School’s thirteenth head during its 104-year history. Dr. Coleman will reflect on the mission of the School and share her vision for the future, and Dr. David A. Greene, President of Colby College, will address attendees as the keynote speaker for the Installation.
 
Faculty, trustees, dignitaries, and students from First to Twelfth Grades will process in the ceremony, and the entire Hockaday community is invited to attend. The Heads of the major independent schools and the major universities in the Dallas area, along with several representatives from schools in other cities, will attend as honored guests and march in the procession. Directly following the Installation, guests are invited to attend an informal reception on the Ashley H. Priddy Commencement Terrace.
 
LOWER SCHOOL INFORMATION
  • All Hockaday students should wear full dress uniform including the correct saddle oxfords.
  • Girls in First through Fourth Grades should be dropped off directly to their homeroom classrooms between 2:00 – 2:15 pm. Please park on the Forest Lane side of the campus and take your daughter to her homeroom classroom as there will not be a carpool running at this time.
  • Lower School faculty and parent volunteers will be located in each classroom to check in and check out the students.
  • Lower School students will march in the processional accompanied by an Upper School student. First and Second Graders will be accompanied by Form IV students. Third and Fourth Graders will be accompanied by Form III students.
  • At the end of the Installation (approximately 4:00 pm), Lower School parents will need to pick up their daughters from her homeroom classroom and sign her out with her teacher or parent volunteer.
  • We expect the ceremony to conclude by 4:00 pm, and the reception on Commencement Terrace will conclude around 5:30 pm.
  • We encourage parents to attend the ceremony and reception.
 
MIDDLE SCHOOL INFORMATION
  • All Hockaday students should wear full dress uniform, which includes blazers.
    • NOTE: Students not in dress uniform will be sent to Hoak to call parents to bring them their correct uniform.

  • All Middle School Students should arrive at Hockaday and meet in their Advisories between 2:00 – 2:15 pm.
    • NOTE: If your Advisory does not typically meet in the Middle School hallways, please meet in the 5/6 Commons.

  • There will be a NO PHONE policy for the installation, so if your daughter brings her phone, it must be left in her locker.

  • We expect the ceremony to conclude by 4:00 pm, and the reception on Commencement Terrace will conclude around 5:30 pm.

  • We encourage parents to attend the ceremony and reception.

  • Middle School Parents: Please determine with your daughter where you will meet after the ceremony. If you are unable to attend, please pick up your daughter by 5:15 pm at Hoak Portico.
 
UPPER SCHOOL INFORMATION
  • All Hockaday students should wear full dress uniform, which includes blazers. 
    • NOTE: Students not in dress uniform will be sent to Hoak to call parents to bring them their correct uniform.

  • All Upper School students should arrive between 2:00 – 2:15 pm to the following rooms:
    • Form IV reports to Hicks meeting room. Form Deans will be responsible for Upper School students. Rebekah Calhoun is the Form IV Dean. Form IV will accompany first and second graders during the processional and be responsible for them during the Installation. When it is time to begin, Seniors will pair up with their first and second grade buddies and proceed to Penson holding their hands. The seniors will be responsible for returning the Lower School students to their homerooms.

    • Form III reports to Hoffman Commons. Form Deans will be responsible for Upper School students. Jessica Chu is the Form III Dean. Form III will accompany third and fourth graders during the processional and be responsible for them during the Installation. When it is time to begin, Juniors will pair up with their third and fourth grade buddies and proceed to Penson holding their hands. The juniors will be responsible for returning the Lower School students to their homerooms.

    • Form II reports to the Upper School hallway on the second floor. Form Deans will be responsible for Upper School students. Alejandra Suarez is the Form II Dean.

    • Form I reports to the Upper School hallway on the first floor. Form Deans will be responsible for Upper School students. Emily Bemenderfer is the Form I Dean.

  • Student speakers; U.S., Texas, and Hockaday flag bearers; and choir students will report to the Penson Athletic Center Small Classroom.

  • There will be a NO PHONE policy for the installation, so if your daughter brings her phone, it must be left in her locker.

  • We expect the ceremony to conclude by 4:00 pm, and the reception on Commencement Terrace to conclude around 5:30 pm.
  • We encourage parents to attend the ceremony and reception.
  • Upper School students who are driving should park on the Forest Lane side of the campus.
  • Upper School Parents: Please determine with your daughter where you will meet after the ceremony/reception if necessary. If you are unable to attend, please pick up your daughter by 5:15 pm at The Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Family Center for the Arts.
 
PARKING INSTRUCTIONS
Parents staying for the Installation should park on the Forest Lane side of the campus.
 
Attendance by students is required. If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent your daughter from participating, please contact your Division Office by Wednesday, October 11 if your daughter is unable to attend.
