Devin Darnell joins Hockaday in the fall of 2023 as the Assistant Varsity Basketball coach.  He is currently in his first year of teaching Lower School Physical Education at The Lamplighter school.  Prior to that he spent 9 years as a P.E. teacher/team lead, Assistant Athletic Director, and Coach at St. John’s Episcopal School in Dallas.  
 
Coach Darnell graduated from Texas Tech where he served as a student manager for the Men's Basketball Program under Bob Knight and earned his B.S. in Exercise and Sports Sciences.  Before that he was a student assistant basketball Coach at Kilgore Jr. College.  While teaching and coaching at St. John’s he also earned his Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.   
 
Coach Darnell lives in the area and enjoys staying busy with his wife and two children.  When coaching basketball, he works to build relationships with players and strives to teach his athletes how to work and compete at their highest level.  He is excited to join The Hockaday School and contribute to a winning culture for the basketball program.
