Will Forteith

With more than 25 years of rowing experience both in independent schools and at the university level, Will Forteith joined the School in 2019-20 as Hockaday’s Head Crew Coach.  A member of the Middle School faculty, Will taught 8th grade Speech & Debate his first year and will be teaching 6th grade English in 2020-2021

Will earned a Master of Education in Private School Leadership from Columbia University, Teachers College, Klingenstein Center in New York, New York; a Master of Arts in English from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont; a Bachelor of Arts in English and History, magna cum laude, from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Most recently at Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey, Will was the Director of Rowing Programs, History Teacher, and Co-Housemaster. Prior to Blair Academy, Will was the Middle School Principal and teacher at The Walker School in Marietta, Georgia for three years where he managed operations, participated in the admission process, regularly communicated with parents, updated curriculum, and strengthened cross-divisional collaboration. Before joining The Walker School, he was the Assistant Head of Middle School, Humanities Department Chair and Teacher, and Head Varsity Crew Coach at St. Mark’s School of Texas for five years where he managed the discipline and character development of boys in grades 5–8. Additionally, he was a member of the administrative team which oversaw the strategic direction of the school. Will also taught English at the Parish Episcopal School in Dallas and was an English teacher and Assistant Crew Coach at Choate Rosemary Hall.

In addition to serving as an educator and administrator for independent schools, Will’s background in crew is extensive. He has earned numerous awards and honors including state and district championships for both club and in-school programs.
