Adaku Ebeniro joined The Hockaday family in August 2005 and has been involved in many aspects of the school. She has primarily been a part of the health, physical education, and athletics department but has worked in various capacities. She loves working at Hockaday because the impact she can have on her students is limitless and she can prepare her students to be lifetime learners.

Prior to working at Hockaday, she received her BA in Journalism with a minor in Spanish and MS in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University in 2003 and 2004, respectively. She coached junior varsity volleyball at Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas in 2004 and was a graduate assistant at The Center for Athletic-Academic Excellence at Texas A&M from 2003-2005. She was also a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Volleyball team from 1998-2002. Upon arriving at Hockaday, she was the varsity assistant volleyball coach from 2005-2008 and coached junior varsity basketball and middle school track during that time. In 2008, she assumed the role of head varsity volleyball coach and would hold that position until 2015. She led her team to an SPC Championship in fall 2008 and lists that as one of her greatest coaching accomplishments as well as winning the Deb Stalnaker Teacher/Coach of the year award in 2009. Currently, she is the varsity assistant track and field coach and was a part of their 2017 SPC title.

Through health and physical education, she teaches cross-divisionally and is the group fitness coordinator for the department. She has attended and presented at several Shape America® conferences. She is a certified group fitness instructor through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America® (AFAA®). Adaku is currently licensed to teach Zumba®, Spinning®, AFAA Practical Yoga®, PiYo®, and Sculpt and Groove®. She also specializes in lifetime fitness activities and creating lessons that are suitable for all fitness levels. She currently teaches 5th, 7th, and 8th grades as well as two upper school classes.

From 2009-2011, she was the part-time diversity director, focused on creating an inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students. She also co-chaired the Intercultural Council (ICC) during that time, working with other Hockaday constituents to bring a healthy cultural awareness to the community. She also represented Hockaday at the NAIS People of Color Conference from 2005-2012. She presented Keep it moving: Strategies to have a balanced work week at the 2012 meeting in Houston, Texas. Adaku has also worked closely with the Residence department through weekend activities, part-time dorm mom duties, and transportation.

As she begins her 14th year at Hockaday, she is fueled by the love and support of her husband, Joseph, the energy of her two-year old daughter, Joanna, and is looking forward to welcoming a new child in November 2018. She loves fitness dance classes, spending time with her family, and enjoys listening to podcasts. She hopes to continue making an impact in as many facets of the school as she can.
