Beyond the Classroom

Last Friday our fifth graders were able to speak with Sarah Elizabeth McCandless who works for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) as a navigation engineer and is also Lisa Waugh’s niece. Ms. McCandless performs trajectory analyses for a variety of flight projects including MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Mission), Mars 2020, and InSight, NASA's most recent mission to Mars that landed November 26, 2018. She earned a B.S. in aerospace engineering and a minor in French from the University of Kansas and a M.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Thanks to both Lisa and Ms. McCandless for this opportunity for our girls.
