MathCounts

On Saturday, February 8, the Hockaday MathCounts team competed in the Chapter MathCounts competition. 8th graders Elise Cho, Christina Ding, Defne Gurun, Kaelyn Lee, Lily McKenna, Anisha Sharma, Yoyo Yuan, and Kimberly Zhang and 7th graders Rayna Li and Sunnie Wang represented Hockaday well.
Four girls advanced to the exciting Countdown round because of outstanding individual scores:   Elise Cho, Christina Ding, Kaelyn Lee, and Yoyo Yuan. This competition pits two competitors against each other in a tournament-style elimination bracket. To advance, the competitor needed to correctly answer more questions than their opponent in a game-show format, buzzing in first with correct answers in front of an audience. Kaelyn Lee won round after round and placed fourth overall.
Our four-person team consisting of Elise Cho, Christina Ding, Lily McKenna, and Yoyo Yuan placed 3rd in the team competition. Two girls, Kaelyn Lee and Yoyo Yuan, were selected to advance to the state competition based on their high individual scores on the written test. Congrats to these talented students and Mr. and Mrs. Bourek who chaperoned the event!
