A Note from Heather Hays

Dear Parents,

Even though the school year is starting off in your home instead of the halls of Hockaday, on behalf of the Hockaday Parents' Association (HPA), welcome back! I also want to extend a very special welcome to our newest Daisies and families! Whether this is your Daisy’s first Fall at Hockaday, or her last, this will be a school year unlike any other. To plan for this unprecedented year, HPA volunteers put in countless hours over the summer coming up with new, socially distanced ways for Daisies to bond, for parents to get involved, and for the Hockaday Community to grow stronger. The parent leaders who entered the unknown territory of virtual Back-to-School parties, as well as re-imagined events and volunteer experiences, proved that this type of flexibility and fearlessness is what helps create an extraordinary community.

While the HPA doesn't necessarily have all the answers about what will be an uncertain school year, I want to encourage you to reach out to me, your Grade Rep, or other members of the 2020-2021 HPA Board of Directors with any questions or concerns. Also check your Class Page for any grade level updates. This is the best way to keep up to date with what's happening in your grade. And, of course, please try to read the Daisy News which will be emailed every other Thursday.

Thank you to all of our HPA volunteers. You are an amazing group and I am thrilled to be on the team that includes Vice President Wendy Oglesby, President-Elect Carla Bolden, and Vice President-Elect Tricia Davidson. And a very special thank you to our New Family/Outreach Chairs who helped welcome our newest Daisies with Hockaday yard signs and virtual get-togethers. If you would like to find out ways you can be involved with the HPA, please look on Sign Up Genius for opportunities. I hope we all have a wonderful school year - and that we eventually see each other on campus and at time-honored Hockaday events.

I look forward to seeing you in the carpool line!
