A Note from Lisa Culbertson

The message below was shared with Upper School students and faculty this morning.

Dear Upper School,

At first, I started drafting separate notes to students and faculty, but honestly, we are all in this together. I hope this finds you warm and safe and the news yesterday of canceling school for the week brought some relief. It seems like we keep experiencing “unprecedented” events. From a tornado, to a pandemic, and now this storm, we keep getting tested as a community and keep being asked to do more. Some of us have personally been tried beyond limits we thought we had. Like we have before, we are going to focus on our basic needs first and school will come when we are in a better place to teach and learn.

Returning to normal (whatever that means nowadays!) is not going to happen magically for everyone and our city by Monday. Some might be ready on Monday and others might need more time. We will be there for you and your personal timeline. We will make adjustments and continue to move forward; after all, we are Daisies and we are resilient.

I will be sending a survey to both faculty and students on Friday afternoon and will keep it open through Sunday morning. It will ask about your personal situation so we can be mindful about how to support you individually and how we can make the best decisions for our community. Students, this information will be shared with Dr. K., your advisor, and your Form Dean. Faculty, this information will be shared with Dr. Leathers and your department chairs. You may choose to not identify yourself if you are more comfortable staying anonymous.

Until we are able to safely see each other in person, I hope you can play in the snow while we still have it, find some moments of pure silliness, and enjoy the snow days. If you are in a fortunate situation, please check in with your friends and neighbors that may need an extra helping hand. If you are looking for something else to do, please get lost in a book you have been wanting to read. Above all, stay safe.

We miss you and look forward to seeing you soon.

Sending warm thoughts to you all,
Ms. C.
