A Note from HPA President Heather Hays

Dear Parents,

I am so honored to have had the opportunity to serve you as the HPA President this school year. And I am eternally grateful for the never-ending creativity of parent volunteers who were able to reimagine Hockaday traditions in non-traditional ways that allowed many events to continue rather than be cancelled because of COVID; everything from 4th Grade Smash Day, 8th Grade’s Got Talent, and the Class of 2021 Daisy Days to Uniform Resale pop ups, Cultural Connection zooms, and an online Holiday Bazaar. We even celebrated the perseverance of the entire Hockaday Community with the virtual event Hang Ten Hockaday designed to help you Ride the Daisy Wave!

Through all those joyous moments, we have to acknowledge this was a challenging school year for many reasons that stretch from COVID-19 to the state’s deadly winter storms. The HPA is here for the Hockaday Community during those times as well. Moving forward, there will no doubt be more challenges, but standing together will allow us to move more easily through whatever comes our way.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who help the HPA by strengthening the relationships and communication between parents, students, and faculty/staff. Thank you also to Hockaday faculty and staff members for your patience and positivity! And a special thank you to the 2020-21 Executive Committee for their support: Carla Bolden, Meredith Clavenna, Tiffany Cuban, Tricia Drum Davidson '91, Becky Dondero, Kristen Fagelman, Courtney Jones Johnson '97, Jan Kramer, Heather London, Kimberly Nelon, Wendy Moore Oglesby '89, Betty Schultz, Amanda Shufeldt, and Jenna Brasch Woodberry '82. And I wish incoming President Carla Bolden and her team all the best for next school year. Carla, you will all do an outstanding job!

In closing, I want to offer my sincere thanks to Holly Hook, the HPA and Benefit Liaison. Because parents could not be on campus this school year, Holly was our eyes and ears in the Hockaday halls helping us in every way imaginable - even setting up wonderful Teacher/Staff Appreciation treats every week! Thank you, Holly!

Thank you again for the opportunity to serve the HPA. I hope you all enjoy the last month of school and that summer brings you some rest and relaxation.

All My Best,
Heather Hays
HPA President 2020-2021
