Eighth Grade Graduation Information

Our Eighth Grade Graduation ceremony this year will provide two seats per family for the event at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 14.
  • Eighth Grade Graduation will be livestreamed for all other friends and family.
  • Eighth graders will not attend regular classes that day; they should arrive in advisory at 12:15 pm in their white dresses.
  • While the girls should arrive to campus wearing a mask, Hockaday will provide matching masks for all of our eighth grade graduates for the actual ceremony.
  • All Middle School sisters of eighth graders will participate in the ceremony. They will need to wear their dress uniforms to school that day. Saddle oxfords are NOT required as part of the dress uniform this year.
  • At the conclusion of the ceremony, students and parents will proceed directly to their cars.
  • If your daughter will be attending Eighth Grade Graduation in person on campus, she will be required to attend the Eighth Grade Graduation Rehearsal scheduled on Wednesday, May 12 from 2:25-3:45 pm during D period study hall. Distance Learning families will soon receive more information regarding drop off and pick up procedures for this rehearsal.
  • If your daughter and family choose to watch the livestreamed ceremony from home, your daughter’s picture will be displayed on a large screen during the ceremony. I have included the picture request from my previous communication here as a reminder.
  • We need your assistance with photos of your daughters. To accommodate the eighth grade class picture during this time of COVID-19 protocols, we need from you a photo of your daughter in her white dress (or a pastel colored dress if you haven’t purchased a white dress for the graduation ceremony yet). The photo should be from the shoulders up only, please, and should be sent to Jenni Stout at jstout@hockaday.org by Friday, May 7. If possible, please take the picture outside with a simple/non-distracting background. We will use these photos for a composite photo of the class and also on a large screen at Eighth Grade Graduation if your daughter is unable to attend the ceremony in person.
  • On Wednesday, May 19 we will hold our required Closing Assembly virtually at 10:00 am; students do not come to campus but do wear school uniforms. While a celebration of the school year for all students, eighth grade awards will be announced at this event.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to finalize plans. Please be on the lookout for additional communications regarding guest arrival protocols and seating for the event, as well as 8th grade carpool arrival procedures for May 14 at 12:15 pm. And…this is our last Daisy News of the 2020-2021 School Year and so, also, my last. Thank you again as I have said so many times over the last 18 years as Head of Middle School for the trust, support, partnership, and love you have shared with me. I’ve always been honored and grateful to work with your sweet girls. Mrs. Christenson could not have chosen a better community in which to lead a middle school. Best wishes and much love to all!
