Fashion in Literature

Students in “The Clothes Make the Woman: Fashion in Literature,” a new Upper School English seminar course, have been exploring the intimate relationship between literature, fashion, and various modes of self-fashioning and unfashioning from the nineteenth century to the present.
This semester, the class worked with Eon, a global leader in digital product digitization,  to address fashion’s economic and environmental costs by designing a project of social impact.

The winners this term were Kailey B., Kate F., Jane H., Emmy M., and Emery S., who are creating a merchandise mart at the end of the school year for students to turn in their Hockaday-branded items for younger students to purchase at a low cost! They hope the initiative will lessen the amount of new merchandise purchased throughout the year and encourage reusability.
