Kathy Perry Named Honorary Alum

An Honorary Alum is a member of the Hockaday community who has demonstrated true devotion to the School through his/her loyalty and support of Hockaday.
An Honorary Alum consistently goes above and beyond expectations and exemplifies the Hockaday Cornerstones: Character, Courtesy, Scholarship, and Athletics. Any member of the Hockaday community – faculty, staff, Trustee, volunteer, or friend – is eligible for this award.  He/she serves as a role model to the students and alumnae of Hockaday.

Kathy Perry has served as the Administrative Assistant for Hockaday’s Maintenance Department since 2007.  She provides valuable and important administrative service to the department that includes 26 men who work tirelessly to keep the campus and facilities clean and safe.

She also worked on the weekends as a dorm mom for the boarding students who lived in the Schmitz Family Residence Hall. Additionally, Kathy served as an Upper School Advisor with Vickey Thumlert for 12 years, and she established lasting connections with each of her advisees during that time. Highlights of her time as an Upper School Advisor include chaperoning Senior Prom, getting to know the parents of the advisees, and taking care of the advisory pet hamster Chaljam.

Throughout her 18 years at Hockaday, Ms. Perry has remained extremely proud of the relationships she has forged with the hardworking and kind men on the maintenance team. She says that the maintenance team and the housekeeping team are made up of some of the most dedicated workers she knows. She continues to be inspired by the way they take care of Hockaday as though it were their own home.

Kathy’s son is Patrick, and her daughter-in-law is Amanda. She is the proud grandmother to her three-year-old granddaughter Reese. Kathy finds great happiness when cooking a gourmet meal, gardening, and attending gatherings with dear friends of over 40 years.
