A note from HPA President Laurie Sudbury

Hockaday Parents,

Can you believe we’re already a quarter of the way through the school year? While our girls have been busy learning and exploring, our parents have been just as busy volunteering and connecting!
Seventh Grade Lock-In: A time-honored Hockaday tradition, the Seventh Grade Lock-In took place on September 5, in the LLARC and went off without a hitch—thanks to our amazing Lock-In Chairs, Molly Hardy and McKinley Wier.
Fun Day: Chairs Abby Hoak-Morton ’05 (Hockaday), Erin Leu (Hockaday), and Erica Radman (St. Mark’s) hosted a fabulous Fun Day Carnival on September 26. This year’s event featured several exciting updates, including limiting attendance to Lower School students and families, providing t-shirts for all Lower School students and faculty, engaging 5th and 6th graders as volunteers, and introducing a reusable logo. In total, 575 student packages were sold! The event was a resounding success, strengthening the partnership between Hockaday and St. Mark’s while bringing joy and connection to our Lower School community.
HPA General Meeting: The meeting was held on October 28, 2025. Following updates from the Eugene McDermott Head of School, Dr. Laura Leathers, and HPA President, Laurie Sudbury, attendees heard from Hockaday Hype Women—Kaitlyn Adams ‘26, Cata Littrell ‘26, Mischa Rutledge ‘26, and Anaiya Saxena ‘26—along with the Upper School Podcasters—Anya Bohil ‘28, Lily Roberts ‘26, and Sophie Zhan ‘26. We heard how these young women spark connections across the Hockaday community and we saw their work come to life in a special recorded interview with our newly appointed Director of Athletics, Melissa Coyne.
Hockaday Celebration – LIMITLESS Events: Thank you to Chair Robin Gelinas Berkley ’93 and her team for reimagining this year’s Benefit by introducing LIMITLESS Events—a series of parent-child events and parent-only gatherings; along with the Heart of Hockaday Silent Auction, Sewell Car Raffle, and Big Board. Click here for tickets and details.
Uniform Resale: A huge thank you to Laura Navarro, Uniform Resale Chair, and her Chair Elects Sarah Reidy ‘98, Emily Polito, and Jean Larsen for successfully transitioning the boutique from Tarry House to its new home on the third floor of Upper Trent. The space is bright and welcoming, with clothing beautifully displayed—and even includes a restroom and washers/dryers for convenience. We appreciate your hard work getting everything up and running so efficiently!
Upcoming Events include: The International Festival on November 14, 3–5 pm, hosted by Cultural Connections Co-Chairs Kary Ionescu and Richa Aparajita. Also, the Middle School Holiday Bazaar on December 19, led by Paula Miltenberger ‘87. Thank you all for your efforts in organizing these incredible events!
Every day, countless volunteers lend a hand with Lunch Bunch, 4th Grade Carpool, Teacher Appreciation, Bookstore, Athletics, Charms, and more. The HPA truly could not accomplish all we do without your time, energy, and enthusiasm. Thank you!
Volunteer opportunities are updated regularly—please check the Volunteer Here tile on the Resource Board and get connected!
