Hockaday Students Compete in Texas A&M Math Contest

On Saturday, October 24, 19 Hockaday girls (listed below) attended the annual Texas A&M Math Contest.  Schools from all over Texas came to compete in this contest including local schools like Greenhill, Science/Engineering Magnet and Texas Academy of Mathematics & Science.  Cistercian and St. Marks were supposed to attend, but due to the weather conditions, they decided not to participate in the competition.

Please help me congratulate the following students:
7th Place on the DE Subject Exam:  Elizabeth Guo
8th Place on the DE Subject Exam:  Clara Shi
9th Place on the EF Subject Exam:  Lydia Li
10th Place on the EF Subject Exam:  Jasmine Jin
9th Place on the Power Team:  Team Milo (Elizabeth Guo, Jasmine Jin, Lydia Li, Violet Li, Annie Lin and Elizabeth Zhou).

In addition, there is an optional fun buzz contest that the competition holds before the award ceremony.  3 of our Hockaday students (Jasmine Jin, Lydia Li and Elizabeth Zhou) participated among the approximate seventy total participants.  After three rounds, 25 people (22 male, 3 female) were left, and Lydia Li and Elizabeth Zhou still remained in the competition.  Lydia and Elizabeth made it past round 5 and finished in the top 15.

The Hockaday Math Club wants to especially thank Victor Torres, our driver.  He helped navigate through various road and weather conditions.  In addition, the Hockaday Math Club want to thank Ms. Grabow and Mrs. Girard for helping them in their mathematical journey.  The 9th place power team named their team after Ms. Grabow’s dog because they find Ms. Grabow as an inspirational and incredible math teacher.
