A Message from Linda Kramer

Dear Middle School Parents,

Happy New Year to all! I hope your break was filled with joy and relaxation and that your new year is off to a good start. We, of course, are beginning January with a very busy schedule. This week has included our spelling bee on Wednesday afternoon and then our geography bee tomorrow morning, a full schedule of athletic events, and preparation by the eighth graders for their upcoming exams on January 21 and 22. Eighth grade parents may check the following link for information regarding the exam process, and eighth grade students also received a hard copy of the details earlier this week.

SPELLING BEE RESULTS: As I mentioned, our annual Middle School Spelling Bee was held on Wednesday afternoon. All of our finalists excelled in this exciting event! Madeline Petrikas won this year’s exciting Spelling Bee. Bravo, girls on a job well done. Madeline will now compete in the Dallas County Private School Round of the bee on February 16.

HOLIDAY BAZAAR: Our annual Holiday Bazaar was quite successful, raising approximately $5600 which will be donated to North Texas Reading Partners. Thank you to our advisory parents who helped the girls prepare for the Bazaar and then worked with them on the morning of December 18. I want to particularly thank Jessica Clark, Orlando Greene, and Natalie Bravo, Student Council sponsors, and Amy Ware and Margaret Hancock, our HPA volunteer chairs for this event, for the care and effort modeled for our girls as you guided this endeavor! I am so proud of our girls for both the crafts they produced and the generosity they are demonstrating in their donations.

INTERIMS: Second term interims will be opened for your viewing at the end of next week. Please remember that interims are written for any student who is struggling in a particular area, who has an average below a C, or who has shown notable improvement in a specific subject. Phone calls from teachers are being made this week to the parents of students receiving interims because of academic struggles. If your child has not received an interim, you will not have received a phone call and you will not see any comments posted in My Backpack. As always, I will send out an email to let you know when interims have been opened for your review.

SPRING ELECTIVES: Next week, students will be offered the opportunity to make requests for an elective change if they so wish. Mrs. Brandt and I will share a spring elective “menu” with the girls on Monday, and they will sign up for any changes next week. Not all girls make a change, and requests are honored as space is available in any given elective. Mrs. Brandt will manage the requests and make the necessary schedule changes. The new elective term begins on January 27.

5/6 FINE ARTS CHANGE: Parents of fifth and sixth graders should note that those girls will be making a music/art or art/music switch on January 21.

Again, I extend my best wishes for a very happy and productive 2016 to you all!
