A Message from the HPA President

Dear Hockaday Parents,

I would like to thank Dawne Tribolet and Jennifer Karol, this year’s Joint Meeting Chairs, for organizing a superb meeting for parents of Hockaday and St. Mark’s students. Mayor Rawlings presented his thoughts on the important topic of parenting future leaders for Dallas, describing the key attributes he believes leaders share, including courage, common sense, self-esteem, humility, hope and hunger. Liza Lee and David Dini then shared with us their respective thoughts on fostering leadership and the work our respective schools do in this area. It was a wonderful, informative and thought-provoking morning. Read more

If you are available tomorrow (Friday, February 5), our Cultural Connections Committee, has organized a very special meeting for us at 11:30 a.m. in Hicks. Our Upper School students will be leading parents in a mini-forum regarding understanding implicit biases. This mini-forum is an opportunity for parents to learn more about the work of the Student Diversity Board and experience participation in a student-led diversity forum. The forum topic is implicit bias—attitudes or preconceived notions that affect our understanding of certain demographic groups in a subconscious manner. It should be a fascinating meeting and we hope you are able to join us!

It is hard to believe but we are only five weeks away from this year’s HPA Benefit – the Daisy Dance – A Classic Remixed. It is going to be an amazing evening that you will not want to miss!
