Led by Ed Long, the Nancy Penn Penson ’41 & John G. Penson Distinguished Teacher in Fine Arts; Fine Arts Department – Lead Chair; Dean of Upper School and Yung-Fang Ludford, Middle School Orchestra Director, Hockaday’s orchestra program has grown significantly in recent years. Today, nearly 70 girls participate in the Upper School Orchestra, and 25 girls participate in the Middle School Orchestra making full use of the audio capabilities in the Orchestra Hall. The hall is complete with risers, sound panels and synthesizers, which are hard-wired under the concrete to avoid cords on the floor allowing for the truest sound to emanate from the orchestra. The Orchestra Hall also utilizes a joint library with The Ann Graves Choir Hall and has a sectional storage room, which allows the girls to keep their instruments safe and their music organized.
