A Message from Linda Kramer

Dear Middle School Parents,

Happy New Year to all! I hope your break was filled with joy and relaxation and that your new year is off to a good start. We, of course, are beginning January with a very busy schedule. This week already has included a full schedule of athletic events, our Geography Bee finals tomorrow, and the start of preparations by the eighth graders for their upcoming exams on Thursday and Friday, February 2 and 3. Eighth grade parents may click this link for information regarding the exam process, and eighth grade students also received a hard copy of the details today. Read more

HOLIDAY BAZAAR:
Our annual Holiday Bazaar was quite successful, raising approximately $6800 which will be donated to Promise House. Thank you to our advisory parents who helped the girls prepare for the Bazaar and then worked with them on the morning of December 16. I want to particularly thank Megan Thomsen and Natalie Bravo, Student Council sponsors, and Donna Carlilse and Squeaky Connolly, our HPA volunteer chairs for this event, for the care and effort modeled for our girls as you guided this endeavor! I am so proud of our girls for both the crafts they produced and the generosity they are demonstrating in their donations.

LEGO LEAGUE RESULTS: The sixth grade team of Maddie Muller, Josie Sinwell, Lola Isom, and Maia Hartley advanced to the next round and won the project award at a Lego League competition on December 17. Their project was a heat sensor inside cars that can detect the body heat of an animal to ensure that it does not overheat; an alarm is triggered after the body heat rises to a certain point. A BIG thanks to Lisa Dwinal for her sage advice and input for the girls on that day. We now have three Lego League teams moving into the next round of competitions. Congratulations, girls!

INTERIMS: Second term interims will be opened for your viewing at the end of next week. Please remember that interims are written for any student who is struggling in a particular area, who has an average below a C, or who has shown notable improvement in a specific subject. Phone calls from teachers are being made this week to the parents of students receiving interims because of academic struggles. If your child has not received an interim, you will not have received a phone call and you will not see any comments posted in My Backpack. As always, I will send out an email to let you know when interims have been opened for your review.

SPRING ELECTIVES: Next week students will be offered the opportunity to make requests for an elective change if they so wish. Mrs. Brandt and I will share a spring elective “menu” with the girls on Monday, and they will sign up for any changes next week. Not all girls make a change, and requests are honored as space is available in any given elective. Mrs. Brandt will manage the requests and make the necessary schedule changes. The new elective term begins on Friday, January 20.

5/6 FINE ARTS CHANGE: Parents of fifth and sixth graders should note that those girls will be making a music/art or art/music switch on Tuesday, January 17.

COLD WEATHER:  Because of the colder temperatures in January and February, please be sure your daughter is bringing a coat to school and wearing tights each day. In addition, we are having a free dress day (dress warmly theme due to the chilly forecast) tomorrow, January 6. Mrs. Brandt has sent out the guidelines to the girls.

Again, I extend my best wishes for a very happy and productive 2017 to you all!
