Community Service

Even as we have concluded our successful sock and candy drives, community service remains a high priority for Middle School. Our Student Council has voted to support Family Gateway as the charity to which we will designate all fundraising (Holiday Bazaar, break sales) this year. Family Gateway is a non-profit organization in Dallas that gives homeless families an opportunity to live in bedrooms for long stays. In addition, we will also have the opportunity to participate in the joint Hockaday/St. Mark’s McDonald’s Week community service project, a St. Mark’s and Hockaday community service event supporting Austin Street Centre, a homeless shelter in Dallas. The McDonald’s at Preston/Royal donates part of all proceeds when Hockaday and St. Mark’s families buy breakfast between November 13 and November 17. On those mornings St. Mark’s students put together a raffle, distribute t-shirts, and provide other fun activities. While we hope very much that you will be able to participate, we do ask that the girls arrive at school on time. Also, one selected restaurant, on two nights, will donate their proceeds as well. Finally, we’ll talk with the girls right after the Thanksgiving Break about our upcoming Holiday Gift Drive that will run from December 1 through December 12. I’ll send more details soon.
