Daisies in the Middle

The importance of sleep and balance
Welcome to Daisies in the Middle, a space created especially for parents and guardians of middle school girls here at Hockaday. During Advisory in September, your daughters explored the importance of sleep and balance! Our daisies reported that lack of sleep causes them to get annoyed more easily (37%), to not feel motivated to get things done (27%), and to feel stressed or overwhelmed by small things (25%).

Here is a short video from Lisa Damour, PhD, on the importance of sleep. I encourage you to watch it together with your daughter and talk about simple ways she can build more rest into her daily routine. Remind her to take advantage of study hall to complete assignments, meet with teachers, or visit the writing center. The goal is to reduce the amount of schoolwork she has when she comes home - helping her manage stress and increase sleep. When our Hockadaisies commit to healthy habits like this, they give themselves the foundation for a strong and successful start to the year.
