MathCounts Competition

On Saturday, February 7, 14 Hockaday Mathletes traveled to SMU to compete in the 2026 MathCounts Chapter Competition alongside nearly 100 area competitors.

Based on strong performances in the Sprint and Target Rounds, Avni G., Bethany C., Olivia Z., Angela G., Lily Q., and Isabella S. advanced to the Countdown Round, a fast-paced, head-to-head competition. All represented Hockaday with focus, confidence, and skill.
A four-student team—Olivia Z., Avni G., Lily Q., and Isabella S.—placed second overall, qualifying for next month’s State Competition. Bethany C. also qualified for State as an individual based on her top written score.
During a break, all 14 students took part in a collaborative engineering challenge, building the tallest free-standing structure and winning the contest through teamwork, leadership, and creative problem-solving. A proud day for Hockaday and a wonderful example of our cornerstones in action.
