Celebrating the Life of Life Trustee Rosalind Redfern Grover ’59

Hockaday mourns the loss of Rosalind “Roz” Redfern Grover ’59, who was a devoted member of the Hockaday community and served the School loyally, making significant contributions as an alumna, grandparent, Trustee, and Life Trustee.
Rosalind passed away on November 21, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones in the hospital she helped build in Midland, Texas. A memorial will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 12:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Midland (800 W Texas Ave, Midland, TX 79701). A reception will be held immediately following the service from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the Midland Country Club (One Wildcatter Way, Midland, TX 79705).

Rosalind served as a Trustee of the School from 2014 through 2020 and was named a Life Trustee in 2024. During her tenure on the Hockaday Board of Trustees, she served as Chair of the Development Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee. In 2021, the Alumnae Association named Rosalind the recipient of the Hockaday Medal Award, the highest honor the Alumnae Association bestows upon its alumnae. Rosalind consistently exemplified the Four Cornerstones in her various professional and philanthropic roles, and she served as an excellent role model for our students, alumnae, and community members.

Rosalind’s commitment to philanthropy and her extensive service roles in the broader community were remarkable. Among many other civic endeavors, she chaired multiple campaigns for Midland Memorial Hospital and served on the Midland Memorial Foundation Board of Governors. She also served as an active member of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors. Her work in education, health care, and other civic and professional arenas resulted in her recognition with the Distinguished Citizen of Permian Basin Award from the Boy Scouts of America, the Lifetime Achievement in Philanthropy from the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Women of Distinction Award from the Girl Scouts of America, and the Hope Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, in addition to awards from the Permian Basin Petroleum Association. In addition, Rosalind was selected as a finalist in 2021 for the Dallas Morning News’ Texan of the Year.

Rosalind’s extraordinary leadership skills were evident throughout her successful career in the male-dominated oil and gas industry. She served as the CEO of Redfern & Grover Resources LLC and was affiliated with the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association, and the Independent Petroleum Association.

Rosalind’s loyalty to Hockaday was evident through the strategic guidance she provided as a Trustee and as a leader of the Development Committee, as well as through her generous annual support of the Hockaday Fund and the Hockaday Parents’ Association Benefit and through her extraordinary support of the Athletics and Wellness Project, the Entrance Project, the Ann Graves Child Development Center, the Centennial Campaign, and, most recently, as one of the lead donors for the renovation of the Ashley H. Priddy Lower School. Roz was stalwart in her devotion and dedication to Hockaday. A larger-than-life personality, her active presence at Board meetings and keen advice and observations will be sorely missed.

Rosalind and her late husband, Arden, are survived by two granddaughters and one granddaughter-in-law who graduated from Hockaday: Landry Brooks Grover ’22, Rosalind “Rozzie” Taylor Killingstad ’10, and Mallory Harrison Killingstad ’05.

As we celebrate Rosalind’s legacy at Hockaday and her contribution to the education of countless students, please keep her family in your thoughts. Her impact on Hockaday is immeasurable, and we are grateful for her many contributions to our beloved School. Instead of flowers, food, or other items, if you wish to make a gift in Roz’s memory, the family has asked that you make a contribution to the charity of your choosing.
