Lower School

Lower School Penguin Project

First Grade and Fourth Grade joined forces yesterday to kick off our annual Penguin Project collaboration!
At their first meeting, students got to know their new teammates, created team names, and tackled the challenge facing the South African penguin—too few safe nesting sites due to habitat destruction. Together, they brainstormed creative ideas for what an artificial nest could look like and what materials might help protect these resilient animals.

Back in their classrooms, First Grade will dive deeper through reading, research, persuasive writing, and beautiful illustrations, creating gorgeous posters to educate our community about issues like overfishing, water pollution, and nesting site loss. The project connects to their Social Impact theme, Animals in the Community, while Fourth Grade will begin designing and constructing nest models in Science.

Students will reunite later this spring to showcase what First Grade has learned and what Fourth Grade has built—proof that teamwork can make a real difference for animals in our world.
