Student Pitch Competition Winners

Last week, the Biology, Impact, and the Zoo class, a Social Impact class taught by Brandi Finazzo and Laura Day, held the seventh annual BIZ Shark Tank Pitch Contest.
The students impressed the judging panel, which was made up of several members of the Hockaday Board and Dallas community:

Roz Grover ’59 - Philanthropist, parent, grandparent, and life trustee
Wasan Alfalahi - Parent and trustee
Ravi Raghu -  President of Capital One Software and parent
Bill Braem - Associate Vice President, Leadership and Institutional Giving at Dallas Zoo

Student teams pitched their prototyped solutions, which targeted different environmental problems. The winning team this year was Alpha Aroma, which worked to solve environmental issues caused by African wild dogs, which can destroy crops and harm livestock. The team worked to figure out a solution involving bottling African dog urine to “mark” territory and dissuade other dogs from harming the land. Congrats 👏 👏 to Form III students Vicky Santana, Sophia Lou, and Sara Gupta, and to all the BIZ students for a job well done this year!
