Centennial Celebration

Hockaday celebrated a century of inspiring, educating, and empowering young women as Hockaday turned 100 in 2013.

The inaugural festivities began with a Centennial Preview Event on Alumnae Day, April 19, 2014 and the launch of the new Centennial Exhibit featuring photographs and memorabilia celebrating the life and legacy of Miss Hockaday, located in Memorial Living Room on campus.

The Centennial school year kicked off with special commemorative activities and events.  Students enjoyed a very special Centennial Birthday Convocation on Graduation Terrace on September 25, 2013 the historic 100th anniversary of the first day school, complete with an archival uniform fashion show, Centennial Timecapsule, raising of the Hockaday flag, presents and cake.  Then, a sold-out alumnae crowd enjoyed the fabulous HAARTS (Hockaday Alumnae in the Arts) Alumnae, Student, and Faculty Art Exhibit over cocktails, then a magical Alumnae Dinner with a keynote address from Ed Long, and the Centennial Anthology book launch.  The Centennial Kickoff Parade and Concert took place the next night, and even though it almost rained on our parade, the clouds parted, the Unicorn joined the parade, and a huge crowd celebrated the Kickoff to Hockaday's Centennial year.

On Wednesday, November 13, 2013 Hockaday undertook the Centennial Day of Service for all students, faculty, staff, and many alumnae.  Girls and adults worked with agencies all over the City of Dallas to create a wave of impact in a single day.  Over 11,000 hours of service were given at the event in Dallas, and the events in San Francisco, Austin, and New York. Centennial Week, April 7-12, 2014, featured a Middle and Upper School Fine Arts Spotlight, a Lower School Musical, a family-style All-Student Luncheon, a very special Centennial Luncheon on Alumnae Day, and the flagship event of the Hockaday Centennial celebrations - the not-to-be-missed Party of the Century on Saturday night.

We are grateful for the wonderful participation of so many of our community in all aspects of this milestone occasion in the history of Hockaday and we look forward to the next 100 years.
