The Kalita Beck Blessing Endowment Fund
This fund supports the mission of The Hockaday School to provide an education that prepares girls to assume positions of responsibility and leadership within their communities and to equip them to make considered choices. It is used to encourage girls of all ages to learn how to be responsible stewards of their financial resources and thereby to improve the community around them. It funds the development of coursework, training of faculty, and purchase of instructional materials within the applicable areas of the curriculum.
The Shannon Blount and and Callan Blount Fleming Endowment Fund
Established in 2001, the fund supports the arts at Hockaday and honors Carolyn Helfman and Robert Gustavson for their positive influence on the lives of Shannon Elizabeth Blount ’99 and Callan Blount Fleming ’02. The gift is given in recognition and support of the excellent education and positive role models provided by these fine educators and by The Hockaday School, and to ensure continued excellence in education at Hockaday for the young women of tomorrow.
The Class of 1977 Endowment Fund for Diversity Initiatives
Established in 2004, the Class of 1977 Endowment Fund for Diversity Initiatives supports activities, special programs, and speakers, and the acquisition of new books and resources to further the cause of diversity. The fund promotes activities and student organizations which educate Hockaday girls on issues of race, diversity, and tolerance and further integrates the school through dialogue, education, and understanding.
The Dr. William B. Dean Endowment Fund for Service Learning and Academic Learning Support
The Dr. William B. Dean Endowment Fund for Service Learning and Academic Learning Support honors the memory and legacy of Dr. William B. Dean, trustee of The Hockaday School from 1970–1977 and will accomplish the renaming of these two existing Hockaday programs in Dr. Dean's honor. The fund reflects Dr. Dean's life-long commitment to educating children with learning differences and to serving his community. Dr. Dean was an active civic leader, highly respected pediatrician, and founder of the nationally-acclaimed Dean Learning Center. His commitment to serving his community was evidenced through his numerous and lifelong involvements in medicine, education, visual and penorming arts, parks and recreation, civic participation, and historic preservation organizations throughout Dallas and North Texas.
The Susan and Lincoln Eldredge Family Endowed Fund
for Financial Aid Student Travel
The Susan and Lincoln Eldredge Family Fund was originally established in 1997 with a gift from Lincoln and Susan Eldredge as part of The Hockaday Family Endowment Fund. In 2004, Mr. and Mrs. Eldredge made an additional gift to this fund in honor of Liza Lee for her many years of extraordinary leadership on behalf of The Hockaday School and as an affirmation of Jeanne Whitman as she continued to build upon Liza's heritage.
The E. E. Fogelson and Greer Garson Fogelson Charitable Foundation Fund
for Fine Arts
Established with a grant from the Foundation, this fund supports new programs in the fine arts at Hockaday and recognizes the generous support of the arts provided by the Fogelson family.
The Cynthia Helene Grossman Endowed Fund for the Boarding Department
Established in 1974 by Dr. Burton Grossman, a Trustee of the school from 1972 to 1978, the fund honors his daughter, a member of the Class of 1972, and is directed to maintenance or improvement of the residence facility and program.
The Gottesman and Rafkin Families Fund for the Arts
Established in 1997, the fund supports Hockaday’s Fine Arts curriculum, faculty, and program at all grade levels in the visual arts, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and ceramics. It reflects the affection of Charlotte Gottesman and Marcia and Bill Rafkin for the School and honors the Hockaday education of Farrell Rafkin ’06. Bill Rafkin served on the Hockaday Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2004, and Marcia Rafkin served on the Board of Trustees from 2002 to 2004. Both Marcia and Bill are deeply involved in the life of the Hockaday community.
The Charlene C. and Tom F. Marsh Fund for the Visual Arts
Established in 1996, this fund reflects the Marsh family's appreciation for Hockaday's program in the history of art and its studio program, including painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, and photography. This grant supports the curriculum, faculty, and program in all visual and studio arts. It also recognizes the contribution of such committed teachers as Ed Long. Charlene Cline Marsh graduated from Hockaday in 1962. She and her husband Tom have served the School as Trustees and are the parents of two Hockaday daughters: Estee Marsh Kellogg ’87 and C.C. Marsh ’00, and one Hockaday granddaughter: Tennessee Louise Marsh, Class of 2030. Mrs. Marsh's mother, Tennessee Whittenburg Cline McNaughton, attended Hockaday with the Class of 1942.
The Valda ’33 and Sallie ’57 McCutcheon Archival Fund
The Valda ’33 and Sallie ’57 McCutcheon Archival Fund, established in 2006, supports the legacy and traditions of Hockaday by helping to provide for an archivist and materials to properly chronicle and maintain the history of Hockaday. The School archivist is the keeper of Hockaday’s heritage and the creator of archival exhibitions. The exhibition of Hockaday’s historical artifacts is essential for current students to learn about the great Hockaday girls and women who have gone before them and created the traditions and legacy that we enjoy today.
The Ashley H. Priddy Endowed Lower School Fund
Established in 1985 as a memorial to Life Trustee Ashley Priddy by the Eugene McDermott Foundation, Sabine Corporation, and an anonymous donor, the fund provides support for the operation and maintenance of the Ashley H. Priddy Lower School.
The J. A. Whittenburg III Boarding Endowment Fund
The J.A. Whittenburg III Boarding Endowment Fund was established in 1979 with a gift from Mr. J.A. Whittenburg III to support Hockaday’s Boarding program. Mr. Whittenburg and the late Jeanne Price Whittenburg ’53 are the parents of Jeanne Whittenburg Latimer ’71, Liz Whittenburg Redwine ’72, C.C. Whittenburg Armstrong ’75 and Leslie Whittenburg el-Effendi ’83, all of whom were part of the Hockaday boarding department.
The Wilmeth Family Endowment Fund
Established in 1994 by Mr. and Mrs. Steven L. Wilmeth, the fund supports academic excellence at Hockaday, with particular emphasis on the science and mathematics curriculum, faculty, and program. This endowment honors Cathy Wilmeth Taylor ’92, Jennifer Wilmeth Keller ’96, and Melissa Wilmeth Iraniparast ’98.
The Sally Taylor Young Fund for Curriculum Development in the Humanities
Established in 1996 by Barney T. Young, this fund honors his wife Sally, and supports the humanities curriculum and faculty at Hockaday by encouraging the creation of new and innovative electives in literature, history, geography, government, the classics, and the arts for the Upper School program of studies. Sally Young graduated from Hockaday in 1953. Barney Young is a Life Trustee who chaired the Board from 1994-1996. They have two alumnae daughters, Sarah Young Miller ’79 and Serena Young ’82, and one granddaughter, Emma Thornton Young ’10.
The Mary Frances Yancey Heritage Preservation Fund
Mary Frances Yancey ’31 was Trustee of the School from 1960 to 1974 and was named a life trustee in 1976. Her daughter Marthajane “Happy” Yancey was in the Class of 2003 and her granddaughter Alexandra Yancey was in the Class of 2003. Mrs. Yancey established this fund to help preserve the history of Hockaday

Established in 1988 by Helma and Ed Ackerman, the fund provides support for Hockaday's financial aid program. The Ackermans are parents of Paula Ackerman Menendez ’87 and Samantha Ackerman Simons ’91, and grandparents of Emma Simons, Class of 2021, and Lilly Simons, Class of 2024. Ed Ackerman served as a Trustee of the School from 1985 to 1991 and was appointed a Life Trustee in 2010.

Established in 2016 and honors the Hockaday education of Ann Bower '67. The fund creates a lasting impact and enduring legacy of providing an exemplary Hockaday education to deserving students. Ann Bower, a member of the Class of 1967, was the daughter of Ann Knight Bower, Hockaday Class of 1939, and sister of Kate Bower, Class of 1971.
The Patricia Q. Brown Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1988 by The Eugene McDermott Foundation, the fund supports financial aid and honors Mrs. George W. Brown, a Trustee of the School from 1981 to 1988 and mother of Beverly Brown Ladley ’84 and Barbara Brown Obert ’90.
The William B. Dean, M.D. Scholarship for Service Learning and Social Impact Work Financial Aid Fund
The William B. Dean, M.D. Scholarship Service Learning and Social Impact Work Financial Aid Fund supports annually a Hockaday student that qualifies for financial aid who has shown significant dedication and commitment in the areas of service learning, social impact, and community engagement work in partnership with Hockaday’s Institute for Social Impact and The Dr. William B. Dean Service Learning Program or on her own in the previous academic year(s).

The Flake Daniel Memorial Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1996 with a bequest from Mrs. Daniel, the fund provides financial aid for qualified Upper School students. Flake Daniel began teaching Spanish and French at Hockaday in 1951 after serving for several years as assistant librarian. In 1965 she was appointed Head of the Spanish department, and later, Head of the Language department. An extensive world traveler, Mrs. Daniel used her knowledge of Spanish and French culture, history and geography to write two textbooks. She retired in 1978, having influenced the lives of Hockaday students for 30 years.

Established in 2003 by Arlene and John Dayton, this fund provides support for non-traditional scholarship students. John Dayton was a Trustee of the School from 1989 to 1994. The Daytons are the parents of Whitney Dayton Magruder ’97.

Endowment for Middle Income Financial Aid in Memory of Richard Dubsky
Established in 2011 by an anonymous donor, this endowment provides support for Middle Income Financial Aid. This fund was given in memory of Richard Dubsky, longtime Hockaday teacher and department chair who inspired a love of mathematics among generations of Hockaday students.
The F. W. and Bessie A. Dye Foundation Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1980 by the Foundation, the fund provides a financial aid grant annually to a Hockaday student.

Established in 1981 by Bess and Ted Enloe, parents of Rebecca Enloe Fletcher ’85 and Elizabeth Enloe Malakoff ’86, and grandparents of Cameron Malakoff ’15, Claire Fletcher ’16, Mercer Malakoff ’16 and Isabel Malakoff, Class of 2021, the fund supports financial aid and honors the affection for Hockaday of the Enloe family. Ted Enloe served as Chair of the Hockaday Board of Trustees from 1984 to 1986.
Margo Fogelman Memorial Financial Aid Fund
The Margo Fogelman Fund was established in 2002 by the Class of 1982 in memory of Margo Fogelman. As part of their 20th reunion, forty-three classmates made contributions totaling $48,000. The Class of 1982 has continued their support by making further contributions to this fund, which supports Hockaday’s financial aid program.

Established in 1982 with a grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation, Princeton, New Jersey, the fund supports financial aid for Upper School students.
The Nancy Smith Forman Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1986 by Mr. Donald J. Forman and Emily Forman Jourdan ’83, the fund honors the memory of Nancy Smith Forman and supports Hockaday's financial aid program.
Pat Murphy ’42JC and Bryghte D. Godbold Financial Aid Fund
The Pat Murphy ’42JC and Bryghte D. Godbold Financial Aid Fund was established to offer students who are gifted in the arts an opportunity to pursue their passion for the creative arts at The Hockaday School. The award will be made available to Upper School students currently on financial aid at the School who have demonstrated exceptional talent in either the visual or performing arts. Students are invited to apply for the award each year by the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management and the fine arts faculty, and will be selected based on merit by members of The Hockaday School fine arts faculty. The award will provide financial assistance for tuition in addition to providing funding to enhance the student's study of the arts through private lessons, summer abroad experiences, travel programs, and other applicable creative arts programs sponsored by or approved by The Hockaday School. The School must receive applications by January 1 of each year.

Established in 1979 by Dr. Greenlee, the fund provides support for the School's financial aid program. Dr. Greenlee's daughters are Geraldine Greenlee Davis ’85 and Hellen Greenlee Albright ’87.
The Daley Christie Haggar Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1991 by Ann and Eddie Haggar, parents of Daley Haggar ’94, the fund provides support for Hockaday's financial aid program. Mr. Haggar served as a Trustee of the School from 1987 to 1993.
The Haggar Foundation Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1984 with a grant from the Foundation to provide financial aid for students whose families could not otherwise afford Hockaday.
The Betty Jo and Jess Hay Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1982 by Betty Jo and Jess Hay, grandparents of Jessica Werner Epperson ’96 and Rachel Hay Spradley ’06, and great-grandparents of Kathryn Elizabeth Epperson, Class of 2026, Virginia Anne Epperson, Class of 2029, and Margaret Hay Epperson, Class of 2034, the fund supports Hockaday's financial aid program. Mr. Hay served on the Board of Trustees from 1989–1992.

Established in 1984 by Mr. and Mrs. Lewis E. Frensley in honor of their daughter, Suzanne Frensley Hood ’57, the fund provides support for Hockaday's financial aid program.

The Charles Huff Memorial Endowed Financial Aid Fund
The fund was established in 1982 with a gift from Pinta Huff Harris ’20 in memory of her father, a prominent Texas attorney who represented Hockaday in its early years. Mr. Huff's granddaughter, Mary Jane Harris, graduated from Hockaday in 1945.

Established in 1982 by Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Good to honor their daughter, Candace Good Jacobson ’63, the fund provides support for Hockaday's financial aid program.
The Alcina Francis Jatoi, M.D. Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 2011 in memory of Alcina Francis Jatoi, M.D. by her daughter, a graduate of Hockaday's Class of 1979, the fund provides financial aid support for Hockaday Upper School students. Dr. Jatoi believed strongly in the education of young women and felt it was important that opportunities be provided for them to receive the best education available.

Established in 2015 by Carmen and Michael Gross, parents of Megan Elizabeth Gross '12 and Catherine Marie Gross '17, this fund supports Hockaday's financial aid program. It is the donor's preference that the funds be used to support a student who qualifies for financial assistance and is of Hispanic descent.
Jordan Family Foundation Financial Aid Fund
Established in 2012 by the Jordan Family Foundation, this fund provides support for Financial Aid. The gift was given in honor of Louise Corrigan Jordan '35, Anne Jordan Logan '63, Carole Bond Jordan '69, and Claire Jordan '01.
The Mary Emma Paternostro Kinnan Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1984 with gifts in memory of Mary Emma Paternostro Kinnan ’37JC, the fund provides financial aid for a student interested in Journalism.

Established in 2006, the fund helps to provide laptop computers to students in need.
Liza and Will Lee Financial Aid Endowment Fund
Established in 2016 by Liza and Will Lee, the fund supports Hockaday’s financial aid program and honors the Lee’s love of The Hockaday School. Liza and Will Lee are both Hockaday Honorary Alums and Liza served as Hockaday’s Eugene McDermott Headmistress from 1990–2004 and again from 2015–2017.
The Erna Lively Memorial Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1982 with a gift from Mr. and Mrs. F. Leslie Campbell, Jr., parents of Candace Campbell Swango ’84, the fund honors the memory of Mrs. D. O. Lively, who joined the Hockaday staff in 1939 and made the institution a warm and gracious home for generations of students, faculty, and staff. Mary Katherine Barnes Campbell ’46JC served as a Trustee of the School from 1976 to 1982.
The Lomas Financial Corporation Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1982 with a grant from the corporation, the fund supports financial aid for Hockaday students.
The W. P. and Bulah Luse Foundation Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1986 with a grant from the Foundation and augmented with subsequent grants, the fund honors the memory of Ann McAdams Burrell and provides a partial financial aid grant for a Hockaday student.
The Melinda and Blainey Maguire Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1989 by Cary M. Maguire, a Trustee of the School from 1975 to 1981, the fund provides partial aid to students from middle income families and honors Mr. Maguire's daughters, Melinda Maguire Down ’83 and Blainey Maguire Hess ’84.
The Nancy and Jeffrey Marcus Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1990 by Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey A. Marcus, parents of Becca Marcus ’96, the fund supports student financial aid. Additionally, it provides for student needs beyond tuition for financial aid recipients whose ethnic heritage is represented in the minority in the Hockaday student body.

The Janie Strauss McGarr Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1996 by Nancy Strauss Halbreich ’68 and Jeremy L. Halbreich to honor Nancy's sister, Janie, the fund provides financial assistance to a qualified Hockaday student. Janie McGarr ’72 has done so much to help young people, both in her capacity as Chair of the Hockaday Board of Trustees and in her other community activities, that Nancy and Jeremy Halbreich felt a fund which would help a young woman attain a superior education would be most meaningful to her.

Established in 2011 by the McManemin family through the Communities Foundation of Texas, this fund supports student financial aid needs.

The Mosle Family Endowed Fund for Financial Aid
The Mosle Family Endowed Fund for Financial Aid was given in honor of Paula Meredith Mosle, Sara Eleanor Mosle ’82, and Katherine Eleanor Mosle ’12. The fund was originally established in 1981 and later augmented in 1998 and then again as part of Hockaday's Centennial Campaign in 2011. The endowment supports Hockaday's financial aid program.

Established in 1985 by Mary O’Boyle, a Trustee of the School from 1981 to 1987, a member of the Class of 1970, and the mother of Abigail English Gregory ’00, Hannah English ’04, and Tess English ’06, the fund supports financial aid.

Gift to the 75th Anniversary Endowment Campaign – Mr. and Mrs. H. Ross Perot
Established in 1988 by Mr. and Mrs. H. Ross Perot, the fund provides support for Hockaday’s financial aid program. Margot Perot served as Chairman of the Hockaday Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1984 and is Life Trustee of the School. Four Perot daughters are Hockaday graduates: Nancy Perot ’78, Suzanne Perot McGee ’82, Carolyn Perot Rathjen ’86, and Katherine Perot Reeves ’89. Mr. and Mrs. Perot's granddaughters are Sarah Catherine Perot, Class of 2009, and Meredith Perot, Class of 2013.
The Mr. and Mrs. Charles Curry Pierce Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1980 by Mr. and Mrs. Pierce, parents of Susan Pierce Wilson ’65 and grandparents of Adrienne Wilson Wagner ’95, the fund provides support for Hockaday's financial aid program.
The Ashley H. Priddy Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1982 by Mr. Priddy's children, Hervey Priddy, Betty Priddy Walker ’69, and Ann Priddy Bentley ’73, and by other members of the Priddy family to honor Ashley H. Priddy's love for Hockaday and his many contributions to the School, the fund supports student financial aid.
The Leslie B. Pruitt Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 2000 with testamentary gifts from Mr. and Mrs. Addison P. Moore, this fund supports financial aid for students at all grade levels and honors the memory of Mr. Moore’s father, Leslie Pruitt. Mrs. Moore (Ruth Lindley) was a member of the Class of 1941.
The Howard Earl Rachofsky Foundation Endowed Fund for Financial Aid
Established in 1999 with a grant from the Foundation, this fund is dedicated to financial aid for Hockaday students. Howard E. Rachofsky was a Trustee of the School and served as a member of the Financial Aid Committee for the Board of Trustees.
The Sandra Good Ramey Memorial Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1977 by Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Good and friends of the Good family, the fund honors the memory of Sandra Good Ramey ’59 and supports student financial aid.
The Virginia C. and Floyd C. Ramsey Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1980 by Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey, parents of Charron Ramsey Denker ’53, a Trustee of the School from 1974 to 1979, and Lynn Ramsey Wynne, the fund provides support for student financial aid. Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey are also the grandparents of Elizabeth Samuell David ’76.

Established in 2013 by Joe and Beverly Rodriguez, the fund provides financial aid grants to qualified students who require assistance to attend Hockaday. The fund was established to honor the character, dedication and perseverance of Alaina

The Rogers Family Middle Income Financial Aid Endowment
Established in 2011 by the Ralph B. Rogers Foundation, this fund provides Financial Aid support for Middle Income families.
The Schoellkopf Family Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established by Mrs. Wilson Schoellkopf, Sr. (Clifton Lingo ’28) in 1994, the fund provides support for Hockaday’s financial aid program and honors the Schoellkopf family, especially Mrs. Schoellkopf’s alumnae granddaughters, Elizabeth Schoellkopf Dal Piaz ’91 and Jennie Schoellkopf Emanuelson ’94, and great-granddaughter Grace Emanuelson, Class of 2023. In recent years the fund has grown significantly with additional gifts from Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Schoellkopf, Jr.
The Deborah Ann Scott Memorial Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1992 with a bequest from Deborah Ann Scott ’70 in appreciation for all that Hockaday meant to her, the fund provides a partial grant each year to a student in need of financial aid. Family and friends knew Debbie Scott as a remarkable girl and woman with unfathomable resources for giving love. Her fund is a tribute to her devotion to life and its relationships.
The Janet Spencer Shaw Fund
Established in 1978 by Janet Spencer Shaw ’59, a Trustee of the school from 1972 to 1978, and her father, Life Trustee Morris Spencer, the fund provides annual financial aid grants to qualified students.
The Jay Simmons Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1978 by Mr. and Mrs. Gerard L. Regard (Betty Simmons ’55), parents of Monique Regard ’80 and Tania Regard Hardage ’82, and grandparents of Margaret Hardage ’13, the fund provides an annual grant to Hockaday's financial aid program.
The Roy and Christine Sturgis Charitable and Educational Trust Endowed Financial Aid Fund
Established in 1992 with a grant from the Trust, the fund provides partial financial grants for new minority students entering Hockaday's Lower and Middle Schools.
The Michelle Neuhoff Thomas Endowed Financial Aid Fund for the Lower School
Established in 1993 by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Neuhoff (Judy Austin ’60) to honor their daughter, Michelle Neuhoff Thomas, who graduated from Hockaday in 1983, and to recognize the significance of primary education in the development of the whole person, the fund provides an annual financial aid grant to a student in the Lower School.

The John Thompson Financial Aid Fund was established in 1999 with a gift from John and Debra Thompson in honor of Claudette Wolfe. This Fund provides financial aid for students in kindergarten through fourth grade.

Jeanne Whittenburg Memorial Financial Aid Fund
Established as a memorial fund in 1995 to honor of Jeanne Price Whittenburg ’53, a wonderful friend to Hockaday and a former member of the Hockaday Board of Trustees, the fund was later augmented by generous gifts from Jeanne’s family as part of the Hockaday Tomorrow Campaign.

Established in 1986 by Mr. and Mrs. Wills (Sue Barnes ’56), parents of Kay Wills Wyma ’84, the fund supports student financial aid.

The Bass Endowed Library Fund
Established in 1971 by Harry W. Bass, Jr., the fund provides support for library acquisitions. Mr. Bass' daughters are Carol Ann Bass ’70 and Beverly Bass Haralson ’76.
The Houston Trippe Bateson Memorial Endowed Library Fund
Established in 1981 with a bequest from the estate of Mrs. Philip B. Bateson who graduated from Hockaday in 1937, the fund honors the memory of Mrs. Bateson and supports Hockaday's libraries.
The Mr. and Mrs. James R. Bower, Jr. Endowed Library Fund
Established in 1979 by Mr. Bower, a Trustee of the School from 1968 to 1973, and Mrs. Bower, a member of the Class of 1939, the fund supports Hockaday libraries. Their daughters are Ann Bower ’67 and Kate Bower ’71.
The S. Roger Horchow Family Endowed Library Fund
Established in 1979 by Carolyn and Roger Horchow to support library acquisition. Roger Horchow served as a Trustee of the school from 1978 to 1983. Three Horchow daughters are Hockaday alumnae: Regen Horchow Fearon ’80, Elizabeth Horchow Routman ’82, and Sally Horchow ’88. The Horchow’s granddaughters are: Samantha Pillsbury ‘11, Regen Routman ‘12, Emily Routman ’16, Fiona Fearon (Class of 2020), and Sabrina Fearon (Class of 2020).
The Stanley Marcus Endowed Library Fund
Established in 1981 by Mr. Marcus, the fund provides support for the acquisition of books, periodicals, and microfilm for The Herbert Marcus Library, which honors Mr. Marcus' father, a Trustee of the School in the 1930's and a staunch friend of Miss Hockaday.
The Anne Windfohr Marion Endowed Library Fund
Established in 1979 by Anne Windfohr Marion ’56 to provide support for Hockaday's libraries. Mrs. Marion's daughter, Anne Windfohr "Windi" Phillips Grimes, graduated from Hockaday in 1983.
The Mr. and Mrs. James A. Whittenburg III Endowed Library Fund
Established in 1979 by Mr. and Mrs. Whittenburg, parents of Hockaday alumnae Jeanne Whittenburg Latimer ’71, Liz Whittenburg Redwine ’72, C.C. Whittenburg Armstrong ’75, and Leslie Whittenburg el-Effendi ’83, and grandparents of Catherine Whittenburg ’95, Forrest el-Effendi ’09, and Elizabeth el-Effendi ’12. The fund supports library acquisitions and honors the affection for Hockaday of the Whittenburg Family, especially Jeanne Price Whittenburg ’53, now deceased.
The Alice Smith Boggess Works Memorial Endowed Library Fund
Established in 1972 with gifts in memory of Alice Smith Boggess Works ’33, who was a Trustee of the School from 1966 until her untimely death. A history buff and avid reader, she was instrumental in starting Hockaday's first library fund. Her daughters, Nina Works ’65 and Nan Works-Leary ’71, are active alumnae, and her granddaughter, Callie Works-Leary, is a member of the Class of 1999.
Fellowships and Awards
The Margaret D. Allman Fellowship
Established in 1976 by Mr. and Mrs. Otto K. Wetzel, Jr., the fellowship honors Mrs. Wetzel's mother, Margaret Deavours Allman ’23, and brings a speaker to the Hockaday campus each year who might serve as a role model in literature, science, or the arts.
The Alison Blanchard Memorial Endowment Fund
Established in 1976 with gifts in memory of Alison Blanchard ’72 and named in 1987 by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Blanchard, the fund provides support for the Alison Blanchard Awards and for programs that further understanding between English and Spanish speaking peoples.
The Fanny Harris Hartman and Ruth Lindsley Hartman Fellowship
Established in 1964 in memory of Fannie Harris Hartman ’42 by Mrs. Leon Harris, Mr. Leon A. Harris, and Mr. Joseph Hartman as a memorial to a lovely and lively spirit and a tribute to the school she loved, the fellowship brings a speaker to Hockaday annually. Beginning in 1996, it also honors Ruth Lindsley Hartman, who died in 1995.
The Alison Fisher ’98 Smith Community Service Award
Established in 1992, the fund provides an annual award to a Hockaday Upper School student whose example to others includes an extraordinary commitment to community service, leadership, and personal initiative in the Hockaday-St. Mark's Community Service Program, and appreciation of the lifelong responsibility inherent in service to others. Additionally, it supports the growth and excellence of the School's Community Service Program.
The Marian Tower Faculty Speakers Fund
Established in 1994 in memory of Marian Tower ’73 by her sisters, Penny Tower Cook ’72 and Jeanne Tower Cox ’74, the fund brings speakers to Hockaday. It benefits the entire school community by providing the faculty opportunities to hear and respond to a wide variety of thought, opinion, and research in education, public policy, science and technology, and the humanities.
Special Purpose Funds
Gregory Family Endowment Fund for Biotechnology Initiatives and the Sciences
Established in 2020 by Abby English ’00 and Michael Gregory to support and promote biotechnology and other science curriculum and initiatives benefitting Hockaday students.
The Kalita Beck Blessing Endowment Fund
This fund supports the mission of The Hockaday School to provide an education that prepares girls to assume positions of responsibility and leadership within their communities and to equip them to make considered choices. It is used to encourage girls of all ages to learn how to be responsible stewards of their financial resources and thereby to improve the community around them. It funds the development of coursework, training of faculty, and purchase of instructional materials within the applicable areas of the curriculum.
The Shannon Blount and Callan Blount Fleming Endowment Fund
Established in 2001, the fund supports the arts at Hockaday and honors Carolyn Helfman and Robert Gustavson for their positive influence on the lives of Shannon Elizabeth Blount ’99 and Callan Blount Fleming ’02. The gift is given in recognition and support of the excellent education and positive role models provided by these fine educators and by The Hockaday School, and to ensure continued excellence in education at Hockaday for the young women of tomorrow.
The Class of 1977 Endowment Fund for Diversity Initiatives
Established in 2004, the Class of 1977 Endowment Fund for Diversity Initiatives supports activities, special programs, and speakers, and the acquisition of new books and resources to further the cause of diversity. The fund promotes activities and student organizations which educate Hockaday girls on issues of race, diversity, and tolerance and further integrates the school through dialogue, education, and understanding.
The Dr. William B. Dean Endowment Fund for Service Learning and Academic Learning Support
The Dr. William B. Dean Endowment Fund for Service Learning and Academic Learning Support honors the memory and legacy of Dr. William B. Dean, trustee of The Hockaday School from 1970–1977 and will accomplish the renaming of these two existing Hockaday programs in Dr. Dean's honor. The fund reflects Dr. Dean's life-long commitment to educating children with learning differences and to serving his community. Dr. Dean was an active civic leader, highly respected pediatrician, and founder of the nationally-acclaimed Dean Learning Center. His commitment to serving his community was evidenced through his numerous and lifelong involvements in medicine, education, visual and penorming arts, parks and recreation, civic participation, and historic preservation organizations throughout Dallas and North Texas.
The Susan and Lincoln Eldredge Family Endowed Fund
for Financial Aid Student Travel
The Susan and Lincoln Eldredge Family Fund was originally established in 1997 with a gift from Lincoln and Susan Eldredge as part of The Hockaday Family Endowment Fund. In 2004, Mr. and Mrs. Eldredge made an additional gift to this fund in honor of Liza Lee for her many years of extraordinary leadership on behalf of The Hockaday School and as an affirmation of Jeanne Whitman as she continued to build upon Liza's heritage.
The E. E. Fogelson and Greer Garson Fogelson Charitable Foundation Fund
for Fine Arts
Established with a grant from the Foundation, this fund supports new programs in the fine arts at Hockaday and recognizes the generous support of the arts provided by the Fogelson family.
The Cynthia Helene Grossman Endowed Fund for the Boarding Department
Established in 1974 by Dr. Burton Grossman, a Trustee of the school from 1972 to 1978, the fund honors his daughter, a member of the Class of 1972, and is directed to maintenance or improvement of the residence facility and program.
The Gottesman and Rafkin Families Fund for the Arts
Established in 1997, the fund supports Hockaday’s Fine Arts curriculum, faculty, and program at all grade levels in the visual arts, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and ceramics. It reflects the affection of Charlotte Gottesman and Marcia and Bill Rafkin for the School and honors the Hockaday education of Farrell Rafkin ’06. Bill Rafkin served on the Hockaday Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2004, and Marcia Rafkin served on the Board of Trustees from 2002 to 2004. Both Marcia and Bill are deeply involved in the life of the Hockaday community.
The Charlene C. and Tom F. Marsh Fund for the Visual Arts
Established in 1996, this fund reflects the Marsh family's appreciation for Hockaday's program in the history of art and its studio program, including painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, and photography. This grant supports the curriculum, faculty, and program in all visual and studio arts. It also recognizes the contribution of such committed teachers as Ed Long. Charlene Cline Marsh graduated from Hockaday in 1962. She and her husband Tom have served the School as Trustees and are the parents of two Hockaday daughters: Estee Marsh Kellogg ’87 and C.C. Marsh ’00, and one Hockaday granddaughter: Tennessee Louise Marsh, Class of 2030. Mrs. Marsh's mother, Tennessee Whittenburg Cline McNaughton, attended Hockaday with the Class of 1942.
The Valda ’33 and Sallie ’57 McCutcheon Archival Fund
The Valda ’33 and Sallie ’57 McCutcheon Archival Fund, established in 2006, supports the legacy and traditions of Hockaday by helping to provide for an archivist and materials to properly chronicle and maintain the history of Hockaday. The School archivist is the keeper of Hockaday’s heritage and the creator of archival exhibitions. The exhibition of Hockaday’s historical artifacts is essential for current students to learn about the great Hockaday girls and women who have gone before them and created the traditions and legacy that we enjoy today.
The Ashley H. Priddy Endowed Lower School Fund
Established in 1985 as a memorial to Life Trustee Ashley Priddy by the Eugene McDermott Foundation, Sabine Corporation, and an anonymous donor, the fund provides support for the operation and maintenance of the Ashley H. Priddy Lower School.
The J. A. Whittenburg III Boarding Endowment Fund
The J.A. Whittenburg III Boarding Endowment Fund was established in 1979 with a gift from Mr. J.A. Whittenburg III to support Hockaday’s Boarding program. Mr. Whittenburg and the late Jeanne Price Whittenburg ’53 are the parents of Jeanne Whittenburg Latimer ’71, Liz Whittenburg Redwine ’72, C.C. Whittenburg Armstrong ’75 and Leslie Whittenburg el-Effendi ’83, all of whom were part of the Hockaday boarding department.
The Wilmeth Family Endowment Fund
Established in 1994 by Mr. and Mrs. Steven L. Wilmeth, the fund supports academic excellence at Hockaday, with particular emphasis on the science and mathematics curriculum, faculty, and program. This endowment honors Cathy Wilmeth Taylor ’92, Jennifer Wilmeth Keller ’96, and Melissa Wilmeth Iraniparast ’98.
The Sally Taylor Young Fund for Curriculum Development in the Humanities
Established in 1996 by Barney T. Young, this fund honors his wife Sally, and supports the humanities curriculum and faculty at Hockaday by encouraging the creation of new and innovative electives in literature, history, geography, government, the classics, and the arts for the Upper School program of studies. Sally Young graduated from Hockaday in 1953. Barney Young is a Life Trustee who chaired the Board from 1994-1996. They have two alumnae daughters, Sarah Young Miller ’79 and Serena Young ’82, and one granddaughter, Emma Thornton Young ’10.
The Mary Frances Yancey Heritage Preservation Fund
Mary Frances Yancey ’31 was Trustee of the School from 1960 to 1974 and was named a life trustee in 1976. Her daughter Marthajane “Happy” Yancey was in the Class of 2003 and her granddaughter Alexandra Yancey was in the Class of 2003. Mrs. Yancey established this fund to help preserve the history of Hockaday
